The eastern side of the loop traverses higher rocky country side until reaching Secret Lake, and is a little more challenging than the western branch, but still relatively easy. The eastern branch of the loop also has lower traffic than the western branch. The western branch of the loop runs through Leavitt Meadow, a highly trafficked trail leading to popular backpacking area at more distant lakes. The trail is also quite popular for horseback riders, so expect to share the trail.
