Well maintained trail, but quite dusty. About half hikers and half mountain bikers. Steady incline the whole way up and pretty lake views from the top.

HikingGreat!

Nice cool weather, good hike with very few other people out there. Be aware if you’re hiking that it’s more popular as a mtn biking trail - so keep a look out.

easy to find/follow. well maintained. some steep sections but also long flat stretches mixed in. Fun to look into a sleepy AV. eagerly awaiting some snowy turns soon.

Well maintained trail. Very few others. Over the 9 miles, 4 bikers and no other hikers. Steady climb almost the entire way. Great view of Lake Tahoe at the top. Ends at Scott chair off load station

I debated between rating it 4 or 5 stars. 4 because it’s a pretty easy, non-technical trail mostly thru a densely forested area, so you don’t have a lot of views on the way. But the 360 degree view from the top is 5 star!! This is a great trail if you want to get some miles in and want to be rewarded with an amazing view. Trail is non-technical and elevation gain is gradual, so you can hoof it to get to the view. You can hike it in 3 hours out and back, not counting breaks. Would be great for mountain biking or trail running, too.

I lost the trail a little over halfway through, thanks to a combination of downed trees and deep snow. Since I couldn’t find my way through or locate a missed turn off, I headed back the way I’d come. The views from the parts I could do were incredible and the trail definitely climbed quite a bit.

Beautiful views non-stop. A long moderate hike - you should be in decent shape or plan for 5 hours. Try to finish by noonish. The peak is worth it and worth spending some time up there - especially if you ski Alpine Meadows.
