Perfect hike to take the kids on. We started at 12:50, made it to the top by 1:45. Were were all done and back in the car by 3:30. My 8 year old daughter ran a lot of the trail and my 5 year old kept up fine. As for traffic, we saw two other hikers and maybe 6 people on mountain bikes. If you don’t have kids then this is a easy hike with tremendous payoff. You have great views of Pyramid Peak, Ralston Peak, Trimmer Peak and Freel Peak. You could hike up in under 30 minutes. Here are a few tips for planning: The trail head is on the Camp Sacramento property past all the cabins. This means that during the summer months you might be able to park up there. However, they closed today so we had to park just down the hill where is is 3 maybe 4 parking spots. If those are full then you can park across the very busy and fast Highway 50. Bring bug spray because there are some creeks on the trail. Water attracts mosquitoes. This is a popular mountain bike trail so if that’s your thing then there’s that option as well.

Great easy short hike. Great views at the end from Lovers Leap looking down at the town of Strawberry, north towards horse tail falls, and all the peaks and forests in the surrounding area. We parked across highway 50 from Camp Sacramento. Good hike for kids, our 4yr old made it up and back on his own without any issues.

Parked next to the creek just across he bride into the camp. Only saw 2 other hikers the whole time. Took about 30-45 minutes with three dogs to get to the top. The views are outstanding. You can see pyramid peak in the distance. Definitely family friendly. Nice and quiet. Highly recommend.

Absolutely stunning view at the top. I could’ve stayed there all day. We were lucky at got a spot at Lovers Leap Trail parking inside Camp Sacramento. We did this hike at 2 pm on a Sunday so maybe that’s why, most folks were heading out as we arrived. Trail is mostly shaded in the afternoon. Rocky in the beginning and then again near the top. There a few forks, you generally stay going “straight” (don’t turn off on any of the forks) to get to lovers leap. All Trails map helped us stay on track.

Beautiful views. Nice shorter hike with some climbing. Nice to have All Trails to stay on trail when there were a couple of forks.

Parking and access: The trail is located at the back end of Camp Sacramento, a small family cabin camp. There is a sign for parking for Lovers Leap trailhead to the left when you enter the camp, but there are only 3 spots. The pull-out on highway 50 for Camp Sac says no parking, but cars were there as well as across the street. Trail: Starting from Camp Sac, the first junction a few minutes from the camp has a sign with a hiker symbol and the letters "PX" pointing toward straight to a trail that goes up and to the left. This is NOT the way to Lover's Leap. Continue straight ducking under the thick canopy. There is a another junction up ahead where the trail forks. Down and to the right a tree is marked "PX". Again, not Lover's Leap trail. Stay left at this second fork. Overall: Great short hike. Tremendous views at the top. Stay left on the trail near the top as it meanders across the exposed rocks. You will eventually see a sign marking Lover's Leap (and warning you not to throw rocks at the climbers). I'm more concerned with someone's loose boot lace or a gust of wind causing them to throw themselves off the edge. Seriously, stay back and be safe.

Nice hike. It was pretty quick and easy. Park across hwy 50 and walk into Camp Sacramento, free parking.

Great hike. Lots of boulders and rocks which makes for some unsteady steps (a bit tough on ankles and bad knees) but plenty of flat areas about halfway in. Hiked to the cement bridge to the beautiful river. Very little parking. Plan ahead. If you can get a space there is a five dollar fee. We parked outside camp area and walked in. May 19, 2018

Hiked this trail late April. Still quite a bit of snow on the ground as the trail is mostly on a north facing slope. Trail was a little hard to follow in the snow. It was a gorgeous day and the view from the leap was amazing! Crystal clear day!

Went mid October for a mild climate and gorgeous views. We brought a lunch despite it being a pretty short hike and ended up at the viewpoint spot to eat. Windy but fun nonetheless. The starting point wasn’t too hard to find, but a bit odd as we walked through an old camp to get to the starting point. After that easy elevation gain. Would recommend.

absolutely love this trail. The hike in was great even the switchback at the top isn't that bad. I'll make this a regular hike from now on. parking at the entrance to camp sacramento was easy.

I started at Camp Sacramento. This trail is not very strenuous untill the last 1/8 of a mile which is almost streight up. it is a beautiful hike with well worn trail. Although the trail is well worn it is not well marked at a couple junctions. Keep right at the first junction and left (folow trail up hill) at the 2nd junction. The views from the top are outstanding. If you bring kids be mindful of the cliff side of the mountian. Well worth the short hike.

Great day hike spot! Pack a lunch and get going, not a tough hike at all. More like a stroll through a beautiful park until the last bit. I came in from the camp sacramento side though. When you get to the top and see the view you will love it. That's when you crack a beer, pack your pipe and eat lunch. Never camped over night, Didn't see the point because you get to the top so quick but I've always wanted to. The stars would be amazing from up there.

Did this hike today - overall, it was easy, and shorter than I expected! The trail is very easy to find. All you have to do is make a right turn into Camp Sacramento, drive down the path, cross the bridge and then there will be a designated parking spot for the trail users to the left of the archery. After that, just keep following the trail signs and when you reach cabin #52, then you're going the right way. It only took me about an hour up with my friend (with short breaks) and about 30 mins back. The views on the way up is nice. You get to see a glimpse of Horsetail Falls, followed by Pyramid Peak! When you reach the top of Lover's Leap, be prepared for a beautiful - gorgeous view. You're about 577 FT of elevation gain, and it takes your breath away (not literally) and there is so many spots to take photos, especially if you're a photographer like me. The wind gust at the top is also really nice for a hot day! I would recommend this trail for experienced and inexperienced hikers (of all ages) to use the trail. Just use caution as always! 5 out of 5 for me.

Went on a Thursday and only saw one other person going the other way. Hike there is very lush with many wild flowers and a beautiful view at the top.

Nice one!! There's 4 free parking spots a short distance after turning into Camp Sacramento. Great view of Horsetail Falls along the way and great views from the top! Enjoy!!!

short but beautiful the whole way, and plenty of wildflowers to add to the beauty!

Good hike. Beautiful at the top.

Great hike! Came in through camp Sacramento and there was parking about 5 minutes walk to trailhead. Pretty easy hike gets a little steep toward the end. But amazing views and the breeze coming over the mountains felt amazing. Would recommend for all types of Hikers, both experienced and inexperienced.

We hike different versions of this trail every time we come up here and it remains a favorite! This one is great for the kiddos.

Saturday, June 10, 2017

Only giving 3 stars probably because we first took Horsetail Falls which was breathtaking. There is still some muddy patches and snow patches too but made it to the viewpoint in hiking boots. The view was quite nice.

There is still some snow in June. So a little bit muddy and sometimes you have to walk on the snow. Bring a hiking stick or you can pick a tough branch on the road. Once you get higher, more rocks and pebbles there. A little slippery. Open scene on the top and windy.

I single handedly lead my group of misfits on this trail. They couldn't hang with Pakiboy but I still carried all there weight. Started a campfire with my hammock an was enjoying some home made egg rolls.
