Sawtooth to Little Chief is a 16.5 mile loop trail located near Truckee, California that features a river and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips.
Please note as of mid June 2020 part of the trail is reported to be closed for construction.
The National Forest Foundation, in partnership with the USDA Forest Service, is conducting a Forest Health & Fuels Reduction Project in the vicinity of the Sawtooth/Bald Mountain Trail. Operations are planned from 2020 – 2021, during Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons. During this time, there will be trail closures, heavy machinery, and tree-falling/flying debris in the area. Users should exercise caution, observe trail closures, and keep at least 300’ back from equipment. To avoid danger, alternate trails in the area are advised. The Big Chief Trail (~4 miles down the 06 road) will remain open. More information on the project, trail closures and more may be found at: www.nationalforests.org/bigjackeast
