We did this trail as a clockwise loop rather than counterclockwise and it was absolutely beautiful. Definitely difficult and slow moving with all of the elevation gain and loss, but the views made it all worth it. We completed it in late September in four days and experienced a lot of different weather including snow! Would absolutely recommend this trail!!

A group of four of us did the clockwise loop in three days. We camped at Pinto Lake the first night and Middle Lost Canyon on the second night. The second day was the most challenging: 12+ miles and Black Rock Pass is a good climb. The views from Black Rock and Sawtooth Pass were amazing, we lucked out with weather. We did this hike the middle of September, the nights got to around low 30's and 60's and sunny during the day..
