NOTE: This hike is 9 miles, NOT 7.4 miles as described. At first, the hike bites. It’s got a quick, steep elevation gain through ho-hum terrain for about a mile and a half, then it gets better. And it keeps getting better. Just before the peak, there’s a picnic table that’s near an entrance from Skyline (No. 70 on the map / noted as “Seagraves” per a Skyline marker). You’ll be tempted to stop here to refuel, but urge you to go a bit further, about a half mile, to a set of benches ~ well worth the wait. The trails are picturesque and the views, although mostly blocked, open out to panoramic views of Silicon Valley. Bring your binoculars and you’ll get glimpses of San Francisco, Oakland, Moffett Field, the Apple Ring, Levi Stadium, and Mount Diablo. The entire hike is heavily shaded, with a few pockets of direct sun. Mountain bikers are popular along the Skyline portion of the trail. Note: Lake Trail ends on to Sanborn Road, this is not a “true loop” of trail. To return to Sanborn County Park, you must walk the road (about 3/4 of a mile) and re-enter the park. It’s worth parking in the park ~ restrooms and maps are available, as well as very helpful staff in recommending hikes (who even said, “that route you’re talking about is well over 7.4 miles”. To which I replied, “but AllTrails says 7.4...” Oh, AllTrails
