First time on this trail today. Great hike. Lots of incline to the peak but doable. The view was amazing with a nice crisp clear weather today. Next time, I'm bringing my rose bush trimmer for some overgrown branches on the narrow trail

I really liked the first mile of this trail, lots of trees and shade. The rest was more open and definitely more steep, but I enjoyed that aspect too, since I was looking for a good workout! Only saw 10 people total during my hike (on a Sunday) which was a pleasant surprise. Nobody was wearing masks except me though :-/

Incredible hike. Felt like we were way out in another world. There was NOONE else on the trail. Scenery are simply amazing! I do agree that this hike is "hard" in many sections. Moderate to Hard. Once you reach the summit, the views are phenomenal! You can rest on the boulders or have a snack. Definitely go!

Challenging trail to a novice hiker, but nothing extreme. So much fun and also so much wild life. Beautiful views all throughout. Overgrown & brushy at times, missed a turn (downloading the map really helped) Definitely going back and taking my time on this one! *Flash light/head lamp for a sunset hike wouldn’t be a bad idea!

Strange, was this route altered? Because when I first hiked this trail couple months ago I remembered it started from the parking lot by Ortega Hwy (just cross to the candy store) and continues on all the way to San Mateo Peak ( part of it was on the Morgan Trail). This is supposedly a 10+ miles out-and-back trail with its trailhead started out from Ortega Hwy. Anyway it was a very pleasant trail and very quiet, not difficult but the length would grind you. Someone please fix the inaccurate information here.

Made the trip to the peak shorter by starting at Morgan Trailhead, to make it more spontaneous-day-tripper-friendly. Fun trail to a nice 360 view. It's a little overgrown but not too bad. There was several small intersecting off-shoot trails so I would familiarize yourself with the trail via map or app so you don't get off track. When in doubt, follow the better-trod trail. Major intersections are marked. There are some shaded parts but I wouldn't try this trail midday on a hot day. I went in the late afternoon and it was just fine, even with an extreme heat warning in the valley. Got to enjoy a pretty spectacular sunset, too, which is a bonus.

Awesome trail, really enjoyed the scenery. Sadly lost my keys on the trail and can’t find them. If any one knows anything please let me know :) it’s a single key for a ford!

Did a shorter version of this trail starting at Morgan Trailhead! Beautiful 360 view at the top, but the trail is a bit overgrown although not overly exposed- some shade along the way. Several trail crossings with little signage, rely on this app to find your way!

Completely overgrown with poison oak and every other plant. Thankfully the cairns at the washed out crossings and little white posts helped. The high split trial was easy to find on the way out. So I took the lower creek one back and had to sludge to connect back to the split. Tons of bugs, tons of stickers, thorns, giant plants, spider webs that were 6’ wide and 8’ tall (look for it by the log at Fisherman’s camp, there are two). It was brutal but I don’t see one human so it was heaven. Did the waterfall first then the trail so I didn’t make it all the way to the end. I had enough.

Morgan trail is good, winding it’s way upwards along a creek in the Cleveland National Forest. But the 2 mile assent from Morgan to San Mateo Peak is overgrown. The problem at this time of year (June) is aggressive black flies. That meant we did the Peak which has a pretty decent view at the top then turned around instantly and headed down just to keep moving. Each with our squadron of black flies circling our hats looking for exposed flesh. Bring bug spray because 4 miles of that is not enjoyable at all. In general I found this trail to be quite long and not great on views due to the line it follows and the density and height of the scrub after our good May rains. So you kind of walk a tunnel of shrubs and flowers - but I could use a bit more vista.

great hike - not hard at all....my 6 yr old did it with no issues. i would rate this hike easy. the last incline can be challenging if you're unfit... other than that, pretty cool place to trek through. also - watch out for the cats. they will test you so be careful.
