As of 02-16-2020 the trail is open. Did the whole thing in 2WD with no issues. This is an easy trail. I suggest you follow it all the way through to SR243 to avoid Hemet as much as possible.

Does anyone know when this trail will be reopened. Or who do I contact to find out?

May be a great trail.... but about a mile in, the gate was closed. 10/21/19

This section is entertaining from HWY 243. Very scenic with some wildlife. Soft dirt/dusty in the dry season and a little more challenging with weather. Lots of tall pines and area with tree canopies as well. Single lane traffic, so keep an eye or an ear open for others. Entering from Pine Cove: McGavern Rd (another possible road might be Baldy Rd, not sure.) begins in a neighborhood, so be mindful and don’t wreck it for others. At the “T” turn right and your on your way. Picnic areas: there are 2 sites. No amenities except the table. Water crossing is minor and adjacent to picnic site 1. Lots of bugs and small birds. Stock Jeeps and other higher clearance vehicles can do this trail (weather permitting) no real concerns. Scenic and easy with a dash of fun.

Great trail for a beginner. Made it with no problems in a stock height 4Runner TRD Off Road with 275 KO2s. Water crossing is an awesome place to stop and eat. Would definitely do it again if ever in the area.

Simple and fun did it in my 3rd Gen Taco 4x4 OR last month. No issues what so ever and did the full trail. Took us 2ish hours because of pictures. Also go to Idyllwild right after fun place for the family.

Very first-time off-road. Trail is rated “Moderate” but difficult for a beginner. Awesome time with the family. Lots of fun climbing on Indian Mountain trail 4S21. As a first-timer, I found it challenging but the scenic views made it well worth the effort. Will return with a “Moderate” lift or bigger tires.

great little trail. enough bumps and ruts to keep the kids interested and thinking we're 4wheeling, long drop off shelf road at one point where rock had fallen on trail was a little white knuckle with only about 5" to edge. Had lunch at the creek crossing which is a great spot. fun trip and will go back to try Jeep trail off shoot.

Started off with rolling dirt dunes that any 2 wheel drive can access and then progresses into rocky terrain where 4 x 4 is suggested. There several large crevices that we had to conquer but nothing a stock FJ cruiser can't handle. Loose rocks and dirt on a slight incline with large grooves were are biggest challenge but a very fun trail that ends up in Idyllwild. There is a very scenic waterfall/river that passes through the trail at one point but it can be easily driven through.

Wow what a great trail. We drove for 7 miles to get up into the cloud line and ascend to the mountains top camping ground. What a great area in inland empire.
