Getting There

Oyster Bay’s outer loop provides views of both protected wetland habitat and the San Francisco Bay. From the moment you enter the park, you can feel and smell the fresh salt air coming off the bay. Enjoy the breeze and the sounds of the bay lapping at the rocky shore as you walk, bike, or jog along the shore. There are benches along the trail where you can rest and look out over the bay. The interior trail is grassier and less traveled, and offers a different, slightly wilder side of the park. Taking this trail leads to a shaded picnic area. Trail Directions: From the park entrance on Neptune Drive, take the paved San Francisco Bay Trail to the left, along the creek. Stay left as you follow the trail along the bay shoreline and western edge of the park. At the Bill Lockyer Bridge, continue straight; do not cross the bridge. After about 800’ make a sharp right onto a wide, unmarked dirt trail, which will take you up a small hill. After another 600’ go left to connect with a wide gravel trail that will continue the loop. Continue to keep left – the trail will head downhill and return to the Neptune Drive entrance. Alternatively, to extend your trip, once you have connected with the large gravel trail, you may choose to explore the interior of the park. To do this, take the second right at a large dirt fork next to a eucalyptus tree. Keep right and follow the dirt trail south until you come to a crossroads with another wide, dirt path, then make a left. This trail will lead you through a line of trees to a paved trail, picnic area, and restrooms. Take a left on the paved trail and then turn right at the restrooms, continue for 200 ft, then take a left on to the San Francisco Bay Trail to return to the Neptune Drive entrance.

From I-880 in San Leandro, exit at Marina Blvd. and drive west. Turn right onto Neptune Drive. Parking is at the end of Neptune Drive.

The trail scenes are marvelous as you can see from the pictures but most of the trail is under construction right now. There are signs for changes as shown in the pictures to the place are coming soon.

Definitely under some major redevelopment as of my visit but it will be beautiful when finished. Great view of the bay and airport if that's of interest. Paved pathways for bikes, strollers, etc. Easy trails for all types. Took my friend's dog and we cut through the center where a lot of the development is happening and then followed the perimeter back towards the airport and to the trailhead. I wouldn't take a water crazy dog there. The lake and bay don't look particularly appealing. Off leash once you get in towards the center. This connects to other trails via a bridge closer to the airport. Biking here would be fun on the pavement. Also, I didn't find unbagged dog poop to be a major issue.

Lots of construction happening on the trail, all walkable, a bummer to see so much work going on. The views of the bay were gorgeous though. This was a wonderfully flat walk, mostly pavement.

It’s ok if you like a paved road. My 8yo son and I are much more experienced and just tried this out because we were in town. We ended up bushwhacking it on some overgrown sections just to have fun. :-)

Park is undergoing renovation to make way for a golf course. So several of the paths are torn up by heavy machinery and there are jags you can’t take. The paved path along the Bay is beautiful though.

It’s a nice trail it can be windy the not too crowded the farther you go the less people there is. It’s a good trail to walk your dog or to bike on

Great off-leash area, and it looks like they are currently expanding the trail to access Davis St. There’s also a water fountain with dog access, so no need to carry water.

The outer, paved trail is part of the San Francisco Bay trail. There are some benches where you can sit down and watch the sun set, or watch the planes land and take off from Oakland airport. The interior of the park is under construction right now and they have it all dug up. I'm sure it will be nice once it's completed, but you might want to avoid that section for now.
