Always a fun little trail when you don’t have a lot of time for a hike but want to stretch your legs.

Soft sand like the beach. Too bad we came late so didn't make it up. Will go back.

Easy length, moderate climb once you get to the buttes. Very sandy for most of the hike up to the buttes, especially so on the trail to the western campground. The trail from the north campground through little butte is less sandy. Once you start climbing the butte, you really go up, fast. More so once you reach the saddle and start heading up the ridgeline. Very steep and rocky. Trail finding heading up is moderately difficult but if you stay on the ridgeline, you'll eventually make it. The summit register is NOT at the summit, but on the north side of the summit block and just below it. WINDY.

Really nice hike - the weather was weirdly nice (low 70s) for September today so I tried it out. $6 day use fee to park and a nice visitor center near the entrance. Almost all of the elevation gain is in the last mile. The first 1.5 miles is flat through a sparse Joshua tree forest, which is cool. The view from the top of the peak is awesome, you can essentially see the entire Antelope valley. The wind on the butte was really strong, ESPECIALLY at the saddle. Go on a day without wind if you can.

Really awesome hike! Went here after my former partner visited in the spring and felt its magic- I wasn’t disappointed by the beautiful views and majesty of the desert. A little tough on the way up because a good amount is sand or on a moderate grade. Recommend to go if you’re ever in need of a peaceful climb and some healing.

$6 day use parking fee so bring some cash! Beautiful hike! Sandy, ZERO people, a true hidden gem! A bit of a trek outside of LA (about 2 hours) but worth it. Amazing 360 views of the desert and the mountains. The trail is pretty well kept until you get close to the top where it tends to disappear and then reappear again. A good amount of rock scrambling to get up to the top but hey, that’s half the fun!!

First hike in a while and I loved it! Be aware that the terrain gets pretty sandy at some points. However, it's so worth it, especially when you reach the peak and get to see all around Antelope Valley. I 100% recommend this hike when the sun isn't high in the air, not just for the heat but the scenery as well.

Was a nice hike, bit of a workout because of the beach sand in certain areas on the trail.

It's not terrible. Kind of bland in regards to sight-seeing, but I am from the desert, so the landscape doesn't do it for me. At approximately 1.25 miles, the trail gets pretty sandy, so give yourself some time. It can feel like walking up a treadmill. Also, it has a tendency to get pretty windy sometimes.

Started at the camp site trail I am 60 and in better that average healt. It was 85+ degrees on June 20 when I started wasn't too difficult. trail gets iffy at the top (hard to follow) but several different ways to the top. great 360 degree view of the Antilope valley. Will do it again but maybe next time when it's cooler or much earlier. 6$ to park but you can park right outside the gate and walk in if you wish

The day use and camping areas are closed due to water issues. Park the car and hop the fence seems to be the best way to hike it right now. The view was nice.

This is an awesome hike ! We started @ the picnic area to the small butte , and all the way to the top of the highest peak of the tallest mountain . Amazing views from up there , took some great photos ; and if you really made it there is a plastic bottle that has a small pad in it to write your name and date for all of us that made it ! the flowers were still blooming and the sun at this time of the day and year was not unbearable and towards the afternoon cooled down some . I highly recommend this hike , take plenty of water with you , and snacks with you .

Took this hike in late March, while the desert flowers were still in bloom, a week or two earlier may have been a bit better to witness the desert floor covered with color. The hike itself is a good journey, starting at the day use picnic area and heading towards the "little butte" which is just a small hill and then heading out towards the larger peak. Keep in mind you go through a fee different types of terrain from compact dirt to loose sand to the granite rock. Most of the assent is done on the loose sand adding a bit to the difficulty. Once you reach the top you have just some amazing views in every direction. All in all it made for a really good half day hike.
