A short yet steep hike that offers great views and pleasant trails through grassland meadows and oak woodlands.

Would definitely like to come back in the spring but was still very beautiful. Views are fantastic! I would say this hike was closer to easy than moderate. We began early on a Sunday morning and trail was empty - when we got pack to parking lot more people were starting out.

For how close this is to a suburban area it is an all star experience with excellent views of both the pacific as well as the entire Bay Area.

Spectacular views, well maintained trail. If you do this in the summer bring LOTS of water as you’re in the open for most of this hike, though it’s worth noting most of the uphill parts on the return are shaded.

The views could not be any prettier. You are on a ridge overlooking a gorgeous valley and can almost see out to the ocean. You are mostly in the sun. This is only briefly an oak tree forest walk. It is generally cooler up on skyline but this hike could get hot possibly in the summer. Wildflowers are very pretty in the spring. I have been doing Borel Hill and then around the loop counter clockwise. You can shorten the trail by taking the black dotted path over the hill through a field (going right not left on BO Gimbal) if you want.

I wasn't expecting a lot of scenery, just kind of a slow rolling trail. So I had no idea how beautiful it would be. The rolling hills are covered with long grass waving on the wind. We saw a lot of wildflowers. There's a good view of the bay early on. On the second half of the trail we went in and out of pockets of trees and had a good view of the mountains. We saw a couple of mule deer about halfway through. It we mostly open so I would guess it would be pretty hot on a warm day. It was cloudy on the morning we went and there sun broke through on our way back, pretty much perfect. Definitely not a strenuous trail and was starting to get crowded as we left around 1-2pm. Good for an easy low-key but beautiful morning or midday hike.

This was an excellent trail. Saw two coyotes and lots of deer. The map on AllTrails doesn’t show it too clearly but this loop is Ridge > Hawk ridge > Alder Creek > Charquin > Ancient Oaks > Ridge. Parking is plentiful. There’s fresh potable water a short from the parking lot at the Nature Center.

Great wildflowers, sweeping view of forested hills and a great workout. Everything was green and pleasant when I went early and could see clouds down in the valley. But it got a little hot towards the end since there's almost no shade.

A truly lovely springtime hike. Plenty of wildflowers amongst the tall green grasses, lovely views, and some really big oak trees.

I love this trail! So much fun not that steep, especially if you go to clockwise. Lots of fun Mary spot, and if you go clockwise you get some really fun single track downhill with very mild hike back up to where you started from. Amazing views. Seriously, so beautiful. There is no catch on this trail, it’s pretty much perfect.

Did it clockwise this time, makes the views better. And the long upgrade on Hawk Ridge is nice. Not many wildflowers.

Amazing views and scenery! Not a difficult hike. Bathroom by the entrance. Bring water. Definitely recommend.

Wrong day for scenic hike. Rainy and windy. But good workout on mostly well maintained trail. Did have to climb over recently fallen redwood 3’ in diameter blocking trail. Saw a couple more dicey looking trees that may topple if rains continue to saturate soil, so maybe I’ll wait a couple of months before coming back.

Clear skies, very windy, great views of the Bay and the ocean. Some incline and some decline but plenty of gentle grade.

On a clear day we were even able to see bits of Monterey Bay from this trail.

Amazing scenery where you could both see the Pacific Ocean and Bay Area. Friendly to hiker and biker. Worth to visit again!

mellow and pleasant. i would have inadvertently led myself off the loop without the app; highly recommend referencing the map while on the trail.

Gorgeous view, the trail itself is not that challenging but the trail signs are a bit confusing, grab a map at the trailhead

I found this trail challenging but not too hard; good if you're kinda out of shape but want to push yourself. The hills and valleys are split up so it's not just one grueling uphill climb. The views and wildflowers are really beautiful in the summer. Parking is limited, yet there were several open spots when I arrived and left. Trail is easy to follow, but make sure you're heading for the right parking lot at the end (there are signs for two different ones). There is almost no shade so be sure to bring sunscreen and lots of water!

We did this loop on a beautiful 80-degree day in late May. Plenty of wildflowers were still out. Big views over the hills to the Pacific were gorgeous. Terrain not too challenging, but a few spots to get your heart rate up. Trail often wide enough to walk side by side. I'm glad we discovered the Midpen Open Space Preserves!

I had the pleasure of joining the 510 Hikers today. The hike started off pretty easy, but was soon challenged by the incline in some of the hills. Would I do this hike again? Yes, most definitely. The views are beautiful and there’s a number of shaded rest areas.
