Getting There

Note: As of June 2020, Runyon Canyon trails are open however they are subject to capacity limitations and parking restrictions. During this time, the trail is running one-way (clockwise). IMPORTANT NOTE: this is a DIFFICULT hike due to loose ground and potential to slip on the descent. For an easier route in Runyon Canyon, take the paved road down or see this out and back route: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/runyon-park-to-indian-rock Runyon Canyon is an extremely popular hiking trail with great views of the Hollywood Hills. It is a great place to go for a quick hike to see the Hollywood sign or the views from Inspiration Point and Clouds Rest. This is also a great area for dog owners as there are plenty of off leash areas. Don't expect to have the trail to yourself and plan time for finding street parking. The southern entrance to the park is located at the north end of Fuller Avenue. Tennis shoes or running shoes recommended. There are a few water fountains but due to the sunny nature of the hike, you should bring a water bottle as well.

LA City Parks (213) 473-7070

From Hollywood Boulevard, travel 0.2 miles west of La Brea Ave. and head north on North Fuller Ave. Head north across Franklin Ave. and begin searching for street parking. The entrance to Runyon Canyon Park is at the top of Fuller Ave. Street parking can be scarce

This is probably the easiest trail I’ve ever did. If you are a beginner and this is your first time hiking.. you should come here because its short and you’ll get an amazing view of the city. I Came here twice, once I got to the first or 2nd view point, I didn’t want to leave. It was absolutely beautiful. I almost didn’t want to leave the rock I was sitting on lol. I went to all the view points.. there are quite a few.

One of the most popular and common hikes in LA. Usually very packed but has nice views over the city. It’s family friendly and doable for most people. If you are looking for more adventure then I’d suggest one of the lesser common trails in LA

HikingGreat!

Did this as a casual night hike in the dark. Great views of the city lights for miles. There was nobody else there. I'm really not sure why it's rated as hard. It's a very easy casual hike where you walk up some hills. I'd use this for a nice walk after a heavy meal/dinner. I've never been there during the daytime though.

Done this a bunch, always good fun when in LA, good workout on first part then levels out a bit. A little slug round some bends to the top. Limited shade

Downhill portion of trail is closed. Not too crowded went- started at 11a on Monday (weekday). Great trail with clear path. Upward portion has a decent incline but not too tough. Will definitely do it again.

Fun hike. About 60% easy downhill walk, 40% tough uphill incline / scramble. Beautiful views of LA. That being said: crowded. Few areas closed off. Dirty- seems like the place you’d get murdered at night.

always overcrowded with loud people. If you’re looking for a scene - this is your place. I avoid it like the plague.

Steep sections, great views, very popular and parking was difficult and we went for sunrise! Good hike to start our stay in LA.

Easy trail - partially paved. Only a mild workout. SUPER crowded every time I’ve been though. Parking is also tough. One of the most overhyped hikes in LA. I recommend you skip this one and opt for driving a little further outside the city for more nature and seclusion.

Nice easy hike. I mistakenly took the "fire road" up as far as it went, then came down the West trail. It seems like going up the West trail is more challenging, and then go down the other way. I'll try that next time. I went in the evening, so there was plenty of shade and a nice sunset.

They don’t tell you on the way up it’s one way up and the same way back down. Kinda frustrating to be thrown off like that when you make it to the top. Personally I think it creates more close contact foot traffic but who’s to say really.
