Runyon is great for an outdoor workout but I would not call it a hike. It's in the center of the city and there is little vegetation. It doesn't feel like you are in wilderness. There is dog shit everywhere, and it's crowded, especially on the weekends. Parking is nearly impossible. I only go here because I can walk to the trailhead. Fryman and Franklin Canyon are much better options if you want to hike and not leave the city center.

This trail is for people who want to be seen hiking. It does have some great views of LA and some good route options, but this is a place to be seen not to get away.

An LA must. Easy paved hike with very little nature, but a good view of the city at the top. Great for people watching/conversation eavesdropping. Don't forget to do your hair and makeup before this hike, gotta look your best for Runyon ;)

There is a more difficult trail through some pretty rough rocks and shrubbery if you start from the dog park down below.
