A nice hike with nice ocean views. Part of this loop is along the road which isn’t great. It becomes no pets allowed about .3 miles away from the lighthouse so know that you won’t see it if you bring the pup. Also gets very crowded near the lighthouse.

Beautiful ocean views!! Just know it's not dog friendly at the Lighthouse. They will turn you away if you try to see it with your pup.

Great surprisr hike up the hill and through history. I started out around the lagoon, and thought i'd go to the beach. Next thing I knew, i was touring old bunkers and heading toward the lighthouse which was unfortunately closed. What a sort of post-apocolyptic site... remnants of San FRANCISCO's defense system from over a century ago. I even saw a bobcat on the prowl... Quite a number of kids' camps touring the area so i even got caught up in a game of tag...

Red trail provided by AllTrails is not an actual trail. It's a narrow path on the side of the road. You can indeed follow it Rodeo Lagoon/Beach to Bonita Lighthouse but don't expect a nature trail--the path is 2 feet from the main road but fairly safe as vehicular traffic is only 25 MPH. I'd recommend just visiting Bonita by car then driving to Rodeo Lagoon/Beach and hiking the Coastal trail which starts at the parking lot/restroom of the beach and leads to all the abandoned WWII bunkers/batteries.
