Rocky Ridge View and Elderberry Loop Trail is a 4.7 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Alamo, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Take a stroll around the tall rolling grassy hills east of San Francisco in the Las Trampas Regional Wilderness. You climb almost 1000 feet in the first mile, but then it’s an easy amble along the ridge with stunning views in every direction. Wildflower lovers will love the springtime scenery of Las Trampas Regional Wilderness, but when the blooms have faded this East Bay park still has plenty to marvel at. Eagle-eyed hikers in autumn and winter will spot birds of prey amongst the gliding turkey vultures, and there's also the chance of a golden eagle sighting.

- Binoculars recommended if you want to get closer to the wildlife - particularly the birds of prey which frequent the park. - The heat of the summer months in East Bay parks is often not kind on hikers. Las Trampas is no exception since the majority of this trail is in exposed locations, so remember to pack the sunscreen and plenty of water.
Moderate hard but worth it once you get to the top of the Ridge
As many hikers have mentioned, in my opinion, the best way to do this hike is clockwise to avoid that first strenuous long mile 1000 foot climb. Great eyepopping views on the ridge with views of the peninsula and Marin on a clear day. The only downside is if it is a windy day where sustained winds can be 30 MPH or more as you go northwest on the tops.
Steep in the first mile, a stroll along the ridge in the middle & steep declines towards the end. A nice workout!
One of our favorite hikes when it’s wet. Steep uphill to start with
unpredictable, after going up the steep! hill I had hope for a flats, NOPE more hills to come. it was excellent workout.
