No shade! But, if you go early (before 8) you get shade going up due to cliff faces. If it gets too hot once you are up top, you can go towards the water stop and then follow the paved road down, and you can walk along the golf course edge and tennis courts on a tree line road with very little auto traffic.

This is trail rated moderate. I give it a moderate +. I read that going counter clockwise is a better work out. I feel if you go either way you are going to get a good work out. There is some areas that are shaded. Lots of ups and downs. Over all I enjoyed this trail. If you indulged this week then give this a try. You will definitely burn lots of calories.

A great trail for a quick work out. Great 360 degree views of LA.

Not a lot of shade, but there were a lot of amazing views of DTLA and parts of The Griffith Observatory.

Nothing spectacular of course, but a decent trail if you just want to get out and get a little exercise. Nothing too strenuous but enough elevation to get your heart rate up and decent views of the observatory and downtown. I like all the options to join or hop off the trail or onto new ones too. Allows you to make your workout whatever you want. Big selling point is how easy it is to park! Went around 3pm and parked immediately for free and only saw a handful of people on the trail!

This trail is officially one of my favourites. It’s perfect for those days when you want a little hike but you don’t want too too much of an incline. However don’t be fooled! There are still some parts that get the blood pumping and heart racing. The trail is mostly in the full sun so come prepared. Took me about an hour going at a pretty good pace. Great views of DTLA and the Griffith observatory. Not as busy as the other hikes surrounding Griffith which is AWESOME. The first time I tried doing this hike, parking was hard to find b/c of the neighbouring Greek Theatre. When no events are going on in there parking is super easy. Go on the Greek Theatre website to check before you plan on going. LOVE this hike! Would be a good hike to run and also connected to a ton of other trails if you want to challenge yourself or extend it a little.

Started from the Greek and went all the way to the top of the Hollywood sign then back down to the Greek by way of the Observatory. Good hike to get the miles in. Good variation of incline, decline, and flat. The scenery isn’t much except for the famous points. So really good for the workout but not much otherwise. There are much faster ways to get to the sign.

Great trail! Beautiful views of the city, and you definitely work up a sweat when the sun is out. Awesome free parking situation right across the street. But as usual, people spoil it by breaking the rules. Sign at entrance says dogs must remain on leash but it’s 50/50 owners who think it’s okay to ignore this and owners who respect it. If you have a leash-aggressive dog, anxious dog, or a dog with a prey drive who’s triggered by small fluffy lap dogs running around blind corners without an owner, best to go on a weekday when it’s less crowded or avoid bringing your dog altogether.

kinda took my own adventure and made the hike a loop by continuing up past the lookout across the bridge and in the way towards Mt. Hollywood and then taking a small trail that ran along the ridge and joined back with Riverside. also spent some time at the wildflowers taking pictures. it was lovely!

Oldie but goodie. Great, quick ~2hr hike (from Greek Theatre -> Hogback Trail -> detour Glendale Peak -> Mt Hollywood -> Griffith Observatory -> Greek Theatre). 8am start, not crowded. Brilliant views on a crisp, winter day. (Sun Feb 10)
