Really enjoyed this hike today. Beautiful views. No one else on the trail. A little hot and lots of bugs but, otherwise, great fun! I'll be back.

A fun way to cap off a visit to the observatory! Lots of bugs but otherwise enjoyable. Gorgeous views from multiple sides of the mountain, and lots of wildlife to enjoy. Squirrels, small birds, lizards, a hawk and a family of deer were among the animals I spotted on the trail.

First to Review

I did this route but continued to Newcomb Peak (9 miles round trip). The views at the peak aren't really worth the effort, unless you're a peak bagger and want to cross it off your list (like myself). Check my recording if you're curious. If you want to do more than 3.4 miles (as shown on this page) but don't feel like hitting the Newcomb Peak, you could hike to Newcomb Pass (7.2 miles roundtrip). With shade and picnic benches, it's a nice place to have lunch or a snack.
