Really liked this hike. Got the hard part over with then it was nice just going along the ridge. Swoop down and enjoy the lake. We even found a shaded area to have a little picnic/hang out just off the lake area.

the dilley staging area trails are perfect for those quick less than 4 mile hikes when you just want to get out and get some exercise. this particular trail is probably the most challenging in that you have to take black jack trail early on to get to the summit. this is a straight up 200ft+ hike that will burn your glutes and your calves. once at the top it's a meandering loop back down swinging by barbara's lake and then back over to the parking lot. this trail can all be done in about 1.5 hours.

The best way, IMO, to do this trail is to start at blackjack (you’d be ascending the trail, rather than descending), and then take the ridge line trail and edison trail to the lake, then looping back via lake trail to the lot. The view is nice (though you are right up against some houses), the climb up blackjack was a good workout , and there wasn’t a lot of foot-traffic. Also, be aware of where you park, we initially stopped at Nix nature center (where apple maps took us), but you actually want to continue further south to the next lot (if you want to start at blackjack)

We started at Nix Nature Center and walked through the underpass to this trail. The views from the Ridgeline trail were amazing.

Lake was beautiful. Love that we could improvise the "inner loop" of this network. The descent at the end is made harder by the relatively poor state of the trail; especially after a recent few days of rain.

Did the loop of 3.9 miles. We went by Barbara’s Lake first which was nice scenery . The majority of the hike was pretty tame but we ended on a descent that could be described as moderate. Nice little trek for a Saturday morning and not overly trafficked.
