HikingGreat!

Lovely hike. As seniors we would definitely recommend going clockwise. Although the 1st 1.5 miles only goes up, it's much better than trying to hike down that steep stretch with old knees. The next 1.5 miles is gradual ups and downs and very pleasant. The final 2 miles is downhill on a road wide enough for 2 cars. There is no fee to park at THIS location. At the turn around point (also on Hwy 152) there is a sign that says parking is $6.

Hiking

Nice hike with uphill for initial 2 miles something that too without any tree shades so timing does matter. After that it's mostly downhill with shades in the middle of forest. It's a nice without as downhills are really with slope so if you can control your stops and walks then you will enjoy otherwise you may not enjoy the downhill. I enjoyed this hike but we started in the afternoon which made a bit tough for the uphills.

Good hike. Clockwise direction is steeper for the first 1-2 miles. Note the Blackhawk Canyon portion of the trail is temporarily closed.

Gorgeous single track in the beginning of Sprig Lake Trail. Elevation hits you but then it goes into rolling hills and is gorgeous. Hardly a hiker to share the trail with. Ridge trail back is more exposed and gravely at end but the Sun is a welcome change.

Hiking

Hiked it clockwise so the steepest incline was going up. Steep trail going up and a nice gradual descent with a view at the end. Mostly redwood forest. Only a handful of other hikers and no bikes. Took a detour through an eerily deserted campground to two big ancient redwoods and then followed that trail back to the loop. Three hours total. Good trail!

It's easy and family friendly hike. The trail is very well maintained. The view changes a lot - redwoods, manzanitas, grass area, awesome vista point.

Great hike, good elevation gain. We went clockwise with the steep elevation first and liked it since the walk down was longer and we could enjoy it. Lots of shade and dogs allowed. Highly recommended

Great walkout. Would suggest to come prior to 8:30 to get parking slots. Lots of shade areas. Great camping ground as well. I would come back again to explore other hiking trails here.
