The loop leaves the parking lot at Contra Loma Recreation area and follows a well maintained gravel road south to the end of Ridge Trail. The trail then follows a well worn dirt road to Acorn Trail. The Acorn Trail is not heavily used and is grassy and damaged from the cattle walking in the spring mud. However, even with some bad spots, this is a beautiful hike. The views are exceptional of both the river and the valley. There is almost no shade, so make sure you wear sunscreen!
