Too steep, lots of flies, but still very good. Just took a quarter of it with my 4yo and 9yo. Awesome view of the Bay.

This trail is surrounded by forest and the whole trail is so clean and there is no confusion. Lots and lots of lizards and rabbits and found a deer. The first one mile is so steep which will touch 1300 feet elevation. Not too much scenic but simple and organized with signs to follow.

Very nice views: on a clear day you can see north to San Francisco, south to San Jose, and many interesting landmarks in between (Stanford, Mt. Diablo, Moffett Airfield, Levi's Stadium, the Apple spaceship campus, etc.). There's a very nice lookout just before the Ewing Hill Trail connects to Black Mountain Trail -- don't miss that! On the west-facing parts of the trail the views are lush, green, and quiet -- very peaceful. The trail has two steep parts: from the trailhead to Black Mountain Trail at the top of the hill (about 1 mile), and from the creek at Hidden Villa to Black Mountain Trail at the top of the hill (also about 1 mile). The rest is fairly easy. The part of the trail in Rancho San Antonio is a well-maintained dirt trail. The part in Hidden Villa is more narrow, rugged, overgrown, and muddy. It's definitely helpful to have the map downloaded on AllTrails as the trail is not well marked. I passed a total of 16 people on a Friday morning. There was also a bunch of kids on a school field trip at Hidden Villa; if you want to bypass that busy section take the Toyon Trail between Hostel Trail and Creek Trail. On the other hand, you may like to say hi to the kids -- one of them pointed out a banana slug to me! : ) My app had the total distance at 6.8 miles; my Garmin watch (which tends to be more accurate) had the distance at 7.4 miles.

two sections of up and down, cute farm in the middle part of trial, mostly with shades, light traffic on Sunday morning

The trailhead is in Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve, not Hidden Villa (which is privately owned), so there is no fee to park. Parking lot is small; I counted 12 cars squeezed in at 11 am on a Saturday. As others have said, this trail is longer than 6.3 miles. I shortened it slightly (see photos) by taking Toyon Trail and Pipeline Trail. In total my hike was 6.33 miles. The trails in Hidden Villa portion of hike are narrower and a little overgrown. It was a beautiful combination of shaded, exposed, trees, and views. I’m not sure why All Trails says this is heavily trafficked. For the middle 4 miles I saw zero other people. For the mile nearer to the trailhead, I saw a handful of other people.

Really enjoyed the trail! Great walk after work and it’s a perfect combination of various views and evaluations - not intense but definitely a good amount of workout in couple hours.

Very nice but currently closed half the way up due to mountain lion sightings.

Mix of climbs and descents . First mile is a pretty painful climb after which the hike is pretty manageable. Hidden Villa and hence part of hostel trail was off limits due to summer camps but we were able to cover 7.5 plus miles even without that part of the loop. Good mix of cover and open skies. No access to water or restrooms anywhere on or before/after hikes . So be aware. Parking is limited.

The parking lot is very limited and just approximately 10 cars could make it full. The view is good but not amazing, but the creek is really clean and clear.

Great training jog/hike for an upcoming ultra trail run. Excellent steep up hill for the first mile then mild rise for 3miles. Lots of switchbacks and variety. Not a lot of parking spots so get there early.

Great trail with options to make it shorter or longer. The first .9 miles from the parking lot is a butt kicker but the rest of it easy to moderate. I love the narrow single lane trails. Great views! When you are on the other side of the mountain you feel like you are miles away from civilization.

Pretty intense for both up hill and down hill. Good amount of shade. The creek was wonderful. However the whole trail was actually 7 miles and not 6. Be advised. Overall great hike.

It’s a great hike, but it’s incorrectly listed as a 6 mile hike. I measured it with a GPS tracker and it’s 8.2 miles.

Pretty hard uphill. And down hill is not easy on the knees either. Great view and quiet.

Great hike! Beautiful scenery, especially on the way back up!!It feels like I was hiking around the hill. There is some sun but most of the trail is shady. First mile is straight up which is hard but it flattens out and descends which is okay. At the bottom is a small area to hang out/picnic/community garden. There is also a barn which has sheeps and goats which are fun to see. Trail is not marked well!! Can be cold during the winter at the top! Small parking lot of about 10 cars total. I found a spot on a non holiday weekend Sunday at around 1130am, otherwise find parking in the neighborhood.

Great hike. Initial hike is a bit steep, but it levels out after the first mile.

Beautiful trail! Signs aren’t very clear, so definitely check Google maps or AllTrails at intersections. Also note: the parking lot is small and was full, so we ended up parking a mile away. As a result we had to cut the loop short because we were running out of daylight, but it was still great.
