Mellow on the first mile. Then steep Rocky incline to the top. Saw a wooden tee pee, a metal teepee, a swing, a stream, a waterfall, wild flowers, squirrels and lush landscape all around me. Loved the challenging incline. Great hike. So pretty at the top, 360° views

Very nice views west towards Cerro San Luis, Bishop Peak etc along with Cal Poly campus and South to Pismo Beach. Excellent trail, recommend going counter-clock wise for a nice finish along the creek at the bottom.

I wish this place was like it used to be, quiet, peaceful and serene. Now it looks like a swap meet with a bunch of idiots on the trail trashing the place. Help keep it clean and pick after your self

Lovely hike and not many people. It is very exposed, not a problem in winter, but can imagine it could be very hot in summer. We went counter clockwise and that seemed the better direction.

Hiking

Narrow hiking trail with lots of smaller rocks and some steep drop-offs. Not a good hike for rambunctious kids or bigger groups for those reasons. Amazing views from the top so def worthwhile. A little overgrown along the creek trail, so glad I had long pants & sleeves. I probably won’t do this one often but really spectacular views at the top. Best in spring & fall because lots of exposed climbing. Oh, and I definitely preferred doing this hike clockwise so I disagree with some other comments. The descent on the west side of the trail is very well-maintained and almost step-like where needed whereas the ascent on the east side was very hard & rocky . Better going up it than down imho. You should try this hike.

Nothing insanely beautiful, but nice views, lots of solitude if ya get here early, and a good 5.5 mile loop. Mountain lion spotted on the ridge east of the creek.

Nice canyon views and SLO valley once you crest the top of the hill. Pretty well traveled. Took two cars so left one at Lizzy Street for return to Reservoir Canyon.

The Eastern side of a loop which walks along the barely moving Creek is pleasant enough although not challenging. But the rest of the loop is super steep, rocky, dusty, and you're in the sun the whole time. On top of that, you can hear highway 101 constantly. I would not do this hike again.
