HikingIcy

This should be Register Ridge. It was a great hike very steep grind (steepest I’ve done in recent memory). With snow and views and 7 hours of wearing me down. The crowds started gathering as I was departing from the top about 10am. I lost my wallet somehow during one of my picture feats.

Trail conditions for just the ridge are good (1/10/21). No micro spikes needed. Only a tiny bit of snow you can work around. Rest of hike to Harwood and Baldy also manageable without spikes. However Baldy Bowl you will definitely want spikes and even crampons would be better. Basically from the summit to the ski hut is all snow and ice. I was going to exit down the Notch and road, but the wind was blowing too hard to risk my life on Devil's Backbone. I have never hiked Register Ridge. This thing is just steep. It's actually steeper than Iron Mountain, which I find odd, but I'm just going off my splits. Iron is harder and longer, but the steepest mile was only 1.2K elevation. Register was 1.4k for 2 miles in a row! Also, don't miss the entrance/exit. Neither are marked.

HikingGreat!

Did this 3 weeks ago. Sunny and windy, I took a 2 L totally capacity. I finished my water just right after leaving the summit. This trail will make your calves werkkk. Im editing a video on YouTube about my experience if you wanna watch it (Peak bagger) (IG: peak bagger outdoors). I hike for fitness so this trail was no big deal, getting to the top is so much fun. I ate a fair amount of beef jerky and corn nuts. I brought pants and a soft shell for summit, took my photos and left to go down the ski hut trail which is very well marked. DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF GOING TOWARD THE BALDY VILLAGE if that’s not your intend, I see that done a lot. I’ve never done it before but I under why people do if it’s their first time, read the summit post signs that someone kindly suffered hauling up there. There plenty of water to filter or straight up drink right by the ski hut. Ski hut trail takes you right back down the normal trail eventually. Hit me if you have any oquestions 9494000820. I live in Costa Mesa.

This trail is challenging! The incline is steep and unrelenting the entire way, you never get a break. The way down is just as tough because of the loose and rocky terrain. You’re constantly sliding around and trying to keep your balance. I would not recommend this trail if you’re new to hiking. However, if you’re looking for a challenge with gorgeous views, this trail is for you!

Oh My! My most epic hike, most difficult and most fun....drove up from San Diego to tackle my first 10k peak, and my was it worth it. The view was spectacular.....This is the kind of hike where you meet others and become friends for life....This is one of the 6 Pack of Peaks that I am now doing..... Highly recommend this hike, will do it again with snow....

This is probably the most challenging hike I have done so far. It took me ~10 hours and about 11 miles total. Started at Register Ridge trail and it is too steep... then took Devils Backbone and finished with Ski Hut trail. I don’t recommend taking Register Ridge if you are not ready for a 100% of the time steep hike.

A fun no nonsense route up Baldy that avoids the crowds. Poles are almost a requirement given the grade. Took a bit over three hours to reach the summit of Baldy and then took a brief sojourn to West Baldy and then back down Register Ridge. Going down was a bit painful and slow and if I do it again I’ll take the ski hit or devils backbone trail.

Parked at manker flats at 6:30am. Went up register trail which met up with the backbone trail. Decided to go to Harwood peak first and then to the mt Baldy summit. Descended via the backbone trail and took the chair lift down from the notch. Did a nice little scree trail down right before getting on the chair lift

I didn’t think Mt. Baldy trail could get any steeper until I read about this trail. It’s the route I take up now. It’s just as beautiful. Perfect for people who enjoy steep climbs. Trail is easy to follow - look for the trail on the right about 100 steps past the register off the ski hit trail. No snow at the moment.

We took the Devils Backbone Trail to summit Mt. Baldy—which was awesome. For variety we decided to descend via Register Ridge Trail. This trail was a disappointment: steep, mostly slippery gravel and the views were sparse.

Hiked 6 9 2019. Beautiful day. The Register ridge section is steep and tough. Lots of loose gravel. Get comfortable doing the Ski Hut and Backbone trails prior to trying this route. This is harder than the other routes on the loop. Note I went up Register ridge and down the Ski Hut trail.
