Redwood Trail is a 3.4 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Moraga, California that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and horses. Horses are also able to use this trail.
This is an EBMUD trail that connects the Valle Vista staging area to the East Ridge trail in Redwood Regional Park. You'll hike through a dense redwood forest, over two bridges and through a series of switch backs up the east ridge. You need to have an EBMUD trail permit and you must sign in upon entering at the Valle Vista staging area. http://www.ebmud.com/files/6914/3284/4664/south.pdf
There are rest rooms at the Valle Vista Staging area.
This trail is amazing! The inclines give you a great workout and the scenery is just beyond me.I truly felt like I was in the Pacific Northwest again. The trail was super muddy because of the recent rain but other than that I will be coming back here weekly.
One of my favorite trails to explore since it leads to the beautiful redwoods. Lots of rolling hills and single track trails. Definitely an adventure! Highly recommend!
Good local hike. But next time I would rather park in the middle at the crossing of Pinehurst and Canyon Rd and extend at the top along East Ridge Trail
The redwoods are so pretty. The trail is good exercise up and downhill. It is nice it connects to redwoods regional park through the gate to east-ridge trail so you can do a longer hike! We hiked on a Thursday morning at 8 am it was so serene and beautiful. we only saw few families picnicking at the start of the redwoods with their kids!
A beautiful climb through redwoods to the East Ridge of Redwoods Regional Park. Trail is narrow and busy (at least on weekends). The stretch that parallels Canyon Rd before you cross Pinehurst and begin the major ascent is visually pleasant, although there is some road noise. This stretch can be avoided by parking near the intersection of Pinehurst & Canyon Rd. (and if you're looking for a longer hike, simply extend the hike into Redwood Regional Park).
Lovely out and back stroll through the redwoods up to East Ridge!
This trail is a great mix of sunny, shaded, uphill and downhill along the way. I really loved hiking along the shaded switchback trail in the EBMUD land that leads up to the East Ridge Trail in Redwood Park. Since it is a permit-only trail, it doesn't get as much traffic as other frequently used public trails, but there are still douches who bring their dogs (not allowed) on the trail and leave piles of their dog's poop on the trail. Just a lovely reminder that (a) folks can't actually read signs or think they don't apply to them and (b) people suck (sometimes).
Really beautiful and mostly shady. Half of it is redwoods and the other half other trees (lol I don’t know the names ).
Trail in great shape and shady. Big parking area that was almost full at 10:00. Beautiful redwoods.
Fairly short trail but a great workout. The last climb up to redwood regional is a great one if you need to work on ascending. Plus, it’s really gorgeous back there. I want to do this hike again and connect it to the redwood regional ridge loop and then come back down through redwood trail. The worst part of this hike is crossing the road because people run the stop signs and just generally drive WAY too fast through there.
