Going Saturday after a rainy week in February made it so that the trail was really wet. This isn’t a bad thing if you don’t mind muddy shoes. Also along the first 1/4 mike of the hike the creek cuts across without a bridge so if the water is high enough you’ll have to either take off your shoes and wade or get from the calf down soaking wet. It was a really serene time with not too many people out and the view from the bench is really breathtaking. There was a majestic predator bird flying down in the canyon. The only reason why I docked a star is the poor trail markings and cloudy map at the trailhead. I’m less inclined to go farther if the map is difficult to navigate. Figure out your route before you get there if you can. I definitely recommend this trail.

I hiked in a group of 12 from my two meetups. We saw a solo Bald Eagle soaring over the river canyon, and on the way back we saw a solo Golden Eagle soaring over the ridge.

Fires have recently hit this area, so it was a very burnt landscape with sparse shade. It’s also very hot this time of year, so I recommend going in the morning or at dusk to avoid the heavy heat. Cache Creek is still flowing despite the dryness, though. I just went for a day hike. If you’re going at this time of year, bring at least a liter or two of water to drink at least.

Nice trail through the rolling hills with good views along the way. We camped at one of the two pretty well established sites next to the river, both offered shade. We had hoped to backpack past this point but the water was too high/fast to manage with a pack. We crossed with just day packs since the water came up to chest height in the calmer parts.

Easy to moderate hike depending on how far out you go. The Redbud trail up to the river crossing is was dry and fairly well traveled. There is plenty of tall grass so I'd recommend pants for sure. We backpacked by the creek which was alright but not spectacular

It was good weather . A lot of day hikers. The trail is tough on the way in but once you get to the river it’s great . This was free backpacking and very enjoyable. We just went this weekend in spring 04/18 . It’s a steep incline on the way in but once you get to the flats it’s good .

Solid steep incline to start, great views along the ridge. Camped just on the other side of the creek, a few other groups of campers were around too.

Hiked this trail in the Spring. The previous Winter had been quite rainy, leaving the understory lush and green. One could hear the roar of Cache Creek in flood from the abundant rains about a mile in from the trail head. Exhilarating views. Will return.

Decent area. Most of the wilderness is dead cause of the fire a few years ago so there isn't a lot of wild life. The incline when you reach the mountain is pretty tough. Steep incline. The water level is high in cache creek during winter. I went during January. There is nowhere to cross the cache creek on the winter when you reach the baton flat. I was told by the locals that the creek can be crossed during the summer. It is about 2.5 miles from the parking area to the baton flat. Great views when you get to the top of the mountain.

Well maintained trail with beautiful views. Hike up for mountain and valley vistas or hike down to Cache Creek. This mountain was burned in the Lake County fire last summer, and it's interesting to watch it come back.

Beautiful in the fall, wonderful trail, and dipping into Cashe Creek is the bonus

Pretty easy in the beginning. Pretty flat and then moves into pretty steep terrain. I think it needs more Switchbacks but it probably is not intended for a mountain bike. I am intermediate rider on an entry-level GT Palomar. Going down was pretty tho. Overall I would say difficulty is moderate for biking, downhill moderate. Just be prepared to work to get to the top.
