came from the 58 freeway I was confused at first because it didn't look like a trail, it looked like a dirt road with bunch of privet properties gates so just keep going you will find yourself high up in the forest before you know it.

did this in the dark as we got a late start. This is easy dirt road with a few minor obstacles. The whole road can be driven with car and some care. We traveled the whole length moving slowly avg 15 mph All the way to the 155 connection. It was a great trip and the first one on a used 4 wheel drive i had just bought. So we were gambling on a breakdown on a road I had never been on , but with the great info available here on ALLTRAILS we had a great adventure. Recommend this road for pleasant day or night trip

In the spring/summer months when the weather is warm and dry, the roads are easy to travel on with a vehicle that has clearance. In the colder rain/snow seasons you vehicle best have off road capabilities. I drove up during moderate/heavy rain fall with my stock Jeep that has mud terrain tires, but i kept sliding. So I had to turn around. The drive is nice for clearing your head, connecting with nature, or just to enjoy the company of a friend(s). Watch out for COWS. There are a few camp sites going up towards Alta Sierra. There is also a creek going through an off-road trail.

As of April 2nd the road is closed at Shirley meadows. About 19 miles up coming from 178 it starts getting bad deep rain ruts and a lot of downed trees and boulders across the rd. Looks like a tornado came through here. Tried a nice easy Sunday drive and left with some new booboo's on the truck. Still a lot of traffic on the road but you will have to turn around and head back the gate is locked at 30 mile mark. Views still great not many wildflowers though. Still a 5 star day with the family.

Nice drive as you get further into it. Part of it is closed during the winter months, so be prepared for that. Some sections were not well maintained, so definitely consider this one "off roading", and leave your sedan at home.

Nice drive and very scenic route. Easy drive... So it's great if that's what you're looking for. It was our first time out with our new jeep and it was great practice. Kids loved it. Next time we'll probably drive down to the Isabella / Kernville area and check out Kern River Brewing Company before heading back into town. Or, maybe we'll camp out and piggyback a Sherman pass run...

Paved and dirt road that leads to Glenville and Evans Flat Campground. Easy drive, great scenery and quail hunting at the top! Fun weekend drive for any high clearance vehicle.

Pretty mild Jeep trail. More like a dirt road. Some bikes and some motorcycles. Watch for kids and ranchers on the roads. Once you get into Park (about 5 miles?) gets better scenery.

Super easy road, drive your Honda Civic easy. Still fun way to get from Bakersfield to Lake Isabella off road though. Evans Flat Campground is real nice and you can ride your ATV's or other OHV's from there to Keyesville. Winter 4x4ing is great with mud and snow!

Also when you get up to Alta Sierra there is a ski lodge and a great restaurant in the little town.

Only words of caution are;
during the winter the road is closed by snow
there are many side roads that lead to private property or other towns so try to stay on the main fire road
