We hiked from Snag Lake to Rainbow Lake. There was a little bit of climbing as we departed Snag Lake, but it's short lived. Rainbow lake was gorgeous and well shaded. Several logs lined the shore on the East side of the lake which were great to rest our bones on. There were also some good looking campsites around that side of the lake. The water was pristine and clear!

1st time hiking in Lassen. What a wonderful place. The hike from Echo Lake to Rainbow Lake is
moderately easy to moderate with varied terrain. The lakes are beautiful and serene. The other hikers
very friendly & polite. The trail is well marked & well maintained. Cannot wait to return...

We hiked this trail as one leg of a greater backpacking trip. The trail moves pretty gently up and down past Echo Lake, two ponds, and Upper and Lower Twin Lakes. The trail at times is rocky and at times more loam-y. We traveled through in June and were swarmed by mosquitos at each lake. There are fantastic views of Lassen Peak and other surrounding peaks. Rainbow Lake itself is a quiet, peaceful lake closely ringed with evergreen trees. There are downed logs along the south shore that make for a good picnic locale. We made camp there before heading on to Butte and Snag Lakes.
