Hikers should be aware that there are a few ledges to scramble up near the top of Owl Canyon. There are several of similar difficulty on the way down the western slot canyon. The northern part of the loop has many alternate trails, you will need the gps route. There is no clear path there.

Beautiful views of Joshua trees, scrub brush, rock formations, wildflowers and hills/mountains. I saw wild burro tracks as well. Hardly any people which made me so happy.

Does anyone know if this is a good hike for kids ages 4-10?

Trail completely missing in many parts. Had to follow this GPS map more than expected. Also, would rate as difficult. A LOT of scrambling and maneuvering up and down. Great trail though if you’re looking for that sort of stuff!

just at this hike, had a great time. the beginning of the hike have plenty of shade, there are areas that you have to climb up that might be a little difficult for some. it had also rained recently, and he made some of the areas muddy. There was still actually a trickle of water coming down some parts of the hike, which had small puddles of water. after the first part of the hike, the trail was hard to distinguish. and we ended up having to backtrack a few times, if we were to have come from the Slot Canyon side first, it looked like the trail would have been more apparent. Slot Canyon part was beautiful, but I wouldn't want to be in there if there is any chance of rain. we end up taking longer than we thought we were going to need for the hike, partly because of the backtracking, and partly because there was a lot more climbing and descending than we thought there was going to be.

Great adventure but tricky to find the trail at times as we had to double back a few times. Make sure you have a satellite view map downloaded beforehand, it will help. The current amount of rainfall have made a good portion of the trail muddy and hard to find. Be prepared for a lot of loose dirt and rocks as well as a fair amount of climbing and scrambling over small cliffs. Beautiful rock formations and views made it worth it.

This loop trail is a gem! Really enjoyed it. The different colours of Owl Canyon are fantastic. Hikers should be aware that there are a few ledges to scramble up near the top of Owl Canyon. There are several of similar difficulty on the way down the western slot canyon. The northern part of the loop has many alternate trails, you will need the gps route. There is no clear path there. Took us about 4.5 hrs.

Very fun, and nice change of scenery. Also proved to be quite the challenge with a 50 pound pack. plan on doing it again.
