Joshua Tree National Park charges a fee to enter. Fees are per vehicle or per motorcycle. If you are entering on foot or bike the fee is per person. You can also purchase a park-specific annual pass. Please check with the park website for current rates. Quail Mountain is the tallest peak in Joshua Tree National Park. Much of this trip is off trail, as is many hikes in Joshua Tree. There are no developed trails to the summit, thus navigation can be tricky. This is the desert, so use common sense, consider what time of year you are going to attempt the hike, and bring much more water then you think you will need.

Nice long hike out and back. Had a real remote feeling. Trails run out a lot. So plenty of route finding.

most of the trail is on/through private land. the parts that were accessible was mostly flat and sandy. some decent views of the rock formations though

2mi into this trail, we reached a private property - a sprawling ranch - that the trail goes right through which we couldn’t quite circumvent. Not sure there is another way...

Hiking

Followed the service road for ~2.5 miles before hitting private property (Rudolph ranch) and turning back. Doesn’t appear to be a valid trail. If you want to hike Quail Mt it looks like leaving from Quail Springs is more appropriate

Pretty awesome hike! I missed the trail going up. Not as well marked, but a great workout!

Hiking

Reached about 2.5 miles in and there's a fence with a no trespassing sign. I couldn't find anything on either of my maps, but decided to turn around anyways.

Not the most exciting, but I still danced for a few miles poundin’ some bangerz on my ear buds.

The trail disappears but that’s what’s great about hiking in JT

Once you reach the ranch, the trail is totally gone. At that point you are just guessing where to go. Interesting buildings on the way there.
