Getting There

Trail Highlights: This hike takes you past the Dairy Glen group camping area and out around the base of the hills to provide great views of the bay and the multicolored salt evaporation ponds. Seagulls wheel high above you as you are buffeted by the cool bay air. If you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of a bald eagle amongst the seagulls, shorebirds, and redwing blackbirds that call the park their home. The trail is mostly flat and much of it is paved, making it a good choice for runners and walkers alike. Trail Directions: Starting from far end of the Visitor Center parking lot, find Quail Trail heading to the south and gently uphill. Follow Quail Trail for .15 mile until you reach the intersection with the Bay View Trail. Make a right on Bay View Trail. After .24 mile, the trail forks; follow the paved trail to your right, following signs for Bay View Trail. After .07 mile, keep straight. Follow the paved Bay View Trail along the shore for about 1.5 miles, then continue as the trail heads inward for another .8 miles back to the Visitor Center. Park Hours: Nov-Apr 8am – 5pm; May 8am – 7pm; Jun-Aug 8am – 8pm; Sept 8am – 7pm; Oct 8am – 6pm Fees: $5/vehicle; $2/dog
Note: Dogs must be leashed and under control at all times.

Driving Directions: From I-880 in Fremont, take Highway 84 west. Exit at Paseo Padre Parkway, then turn right and drive north about one mile. Turn left on Patterson Ranch Road and proceed into the park. Public Transit Directions: This park is not accessible by public transit.

Great short, easy hike. Not crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Both inside parking lots are open. Beautiful view of the bay. Especially great on warm days as there’s always a cool bay breeze. Most folks had masks and practiced social distancing.

one of the most beautiful spots in the south bay overlooks the water and roaming hills 10/10 can’t wait to come back. walked with our dog and found that the trails were moderate with some up hill but largely an easy pace!

It's very scenic and an easy trail. Only at one place and for a few minutes, it has an extremely bad sulphur smell. It's probably only at a particular time of the year. Had to push through.

Trails are mostly asphalt but there are areas that are dirt as well. The trails going up and down the hills are dirt trails. They are mostly in good shape. I parked in the patterson ranch road parking lot where they had clean bathrooms. There were some trails going through the Marsh area. They looked like a lot of fun.

Majority of trail is flat and paved with options to turn off and climb some hills if desired. Easy to turn back onto Bayview Trail at multiple points. Visitor Center parking is currently closed but was easy to get parking in the lot a little ways further up Patterson Ranch Rd.

Great hike to see the bay view of salt water shining in white and gold from the sun. Mostly paved path. A lot of animal life such as sheep, deer, birds, and turkey.

Beautiful sunset walk around the hills and salt ponds. Excellent condition trail, mostly paved, wide enough for families. Park closes at six, not sure how strict they are about that. I’ll be back!
