Beautiful area and would love to camp there. The only downfall is that the trails are somewhat hard to follow; the bridge was down on the nature trail, which we were warned of, but then we hiked tiptoe falls trail on a narrow trail which we were unsure if we were even on the trail in some spots and that dead ended to a creek which seemed it was supposed to have a bridge from the map, but no bridge there either. It's beautiful there and quiet, not crowded, which is nice, but the trails/maps can leave you a tad misguided.

Great ~13 mile hike with a loop in the middle that goes through old growth redwoods and streams.

Portola is the secret redwood park that has much less traffic and is just a beautiful as big basin. A must visit.

We actually camped at Portola Redwood State Park in La Honda, CA. and it was amazing! The short trail so we thought ended up being a 3 mile hike around the campsite. The trail starts off with a river right next to you with amazing redwoods all around you. Then as you keep hiking parts of the trail is not visible, so you have to make sense of where the trail is. Sometimes the trail is hidden by huge redwoods that have fallen and yes you have to climb over them. If it seems impossible don't worry the trail does continue as soon as you climb over. We had a great time exploring an area that we've never been to and would do it again.
