Tips

This short trail from the parking lot offers spectacular views on the Pacific Cliffs. Point Bonita Lighthouse, located at the South Western tip of the Marin headlands, is an active lighthouse with a rich history. The lighthouse was the 3rd lighthouse on the West Coast and was first built in 1855. The Lighthouse is only open Sundays and Mondays with limited hours. When the gates are open, the Lighthouse is open. Accessibility: The trail is paved and is typically at least three feet wide. Users have reported it is narrow for passing with strollers or wheelchairs in some places. The estimated average grade is 4% and the max grade is 12% so there are some steep sections. The steepest section is at about 0.2 miles. Wheelchair, mobility equipment, or stroller users may find the full trail too steep to do without assistance.

Park at the end of Field Rd.

This area is beautiful. The trail was closed due to Covid-19 & ended at the tunnel before the lighthouse (approximately 0.3 mile). Decent view of the Golden Gate Bridge too.

The views are absolutely stunning. Bring binoculars not only for the views but the wildlife. I went on a gloomy day first thing in the morning after in a light drizzle so we had the trail to ourselves and all the animals were out. Cleared up during the hike so it was perfect weather imho.

This trail is highly recommended! It's fun, both easy and moderate, and has trails that branch out for the more adventurous. Took me about 2 hours, but I stopped every 30 feet for a photo and enjoyed a nice lunch on a cliff overlooking the Pacific. "BRING YOUR HIGH DEF CAMERA IF YOU HAVE ONE", the views are breathtaking!

Beautiful scenery and not too crowded. Easy parking and many small trails to check out. Best to come when the lighthouse is open otherwise half the trail to it is closed including the tunnel and suspension bridge which is the fun part.

Point Bonita Lighthouse is a charming place to visit! Parking is plentiful and the short walk to the lighthouse is easy. There are seals below the lookout point, a rock tunnel to walk through, and a cute bridge leading to the lighthouse! Loved it!

Easy hike mostly walking on pavement with a bridge to the lighthouse at the end. Had a few different sights to see including old military bunkers, the lighthouse, and view at the top of the hill overlooking SF, GGB, and ocean!

This was a great walk with my son (8yo). Definitely one of those things you should do at least once. And definitely go early!! We got there right around 12:30 when the lighthouse was opening. We waited about 20 minutes to go across the bridge to the actual lighthouse. But when we headed back the line was easily 50 people long, nearly to the tunnel. We had great marine mammal sitings along the hike. Very lovely and decent trails. At some points it is only wide enough for 2 people so if you can avoid bringing a stroller, please do. We noticed parking was tight. We parked down the hill a bit and hiked up past the Point Bonita YMCA.

Nice walk. The tunnel to walk out to lighthouse was closed today due to fog. But still a nice walk up to that point.

Started the track from Rodeo Lagoon where there is plenty of parking. Walked through the coastline towards the Bonita point. The highlight is definitely the light house with a suspension bridge. Weather not good need to wear a coat. But u could see that the view should be fantastic on sunny days. Will be back. Also kids and dogs friendly.

Heavy traffic, but nice and easy paved hike with beautiful views of the bay. NOTE that it is only open for a few hours during the day so make sure you check before heading out there. We went early in the morning and the tunnel leading to the lighthouse was locked. We had to go back later in the day to finish the hike.

Its a great hike for beginners. There is way too many people there but it's a fun place to go. It will give you a beautiful look at the Bay Area. The lighthouse employees are very informative and provide great info on the lighthouse's history.
