HikingGreat!

It’s an amazing hiking area, and it does take a long time to complete the whole hike. I didn’t go all the way but it was very fun, lots of paths, it makes you sweat and work your legs when going up. I went there from San Rafael and the driving might be a bit curvy on the way there. Some hiking shoes would be nice to have so you don’t feel like slipping where there aren’t many rocks. People are friendly, the views are beautiful and I’ll go there again another time.

Some steep inclines and declines. Extremely steep as you approach pirates cove. Powdery trail during dry season so wear proper shoes.

out and back to pirates cove is moderate for sure. the initial up hill is the easy part. then your start to work your way down switch backs to pirates cove. the trail is large at first and at some points narrows down to one person width. the little downhill section to pirates cove requires concentration as it at some points is like climbing down a rock embankment. well worth the caution though as the cove it self is beautiful and secluded. it is an out and back trail, meaning you will be coming back the same way however there is away around but it requires the use of connecting trails. overall I'd say a 7 out of ten for difficulty.

Trail is beautiful. Best if done early in the day as it gets crowded after 9:30 AM. Tons of trails to connect to which can lengthen the hike if you’re looking for something more challenging.

The cove is so beautiful with the waves and the rocks. Though there were some plastic bottles, not too much trash seen. Getting to the cove is fun and challenging, using both hands and knees at times, very worth it. Made a bad choice returing to parking lot via Costal trail then Tennessee valley down - very boring.

Beautiful trail, the map here doesn’t reflect the current closures but there are plenty of workarounds. The descent into Tennessee Valley from the south can be tough, if you’re wary on the downhill it’s best to do this trail North to South. This trail has lots of pounding oak and in some places it’s nearly impossible to avoid - I’d recommend pants.

Great trail. Lots of up and down and pretty steep slopes. Section closer to the coast has great views of the ocean. Other section is mostly hilly views. Bring lots of water especially if it’s hot. Not too crowded if you go before 10am.

Read a review how the beginning from the parking lot was a bit steep and then it cooled after that, and I would agree. I was hoping to find the brewery that someone mentioned in a different review - still can't... :(. Hike is great though! A quick ~3miles

Beautiful hike, perfect for our family with two kids 6 and 11. Breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and nice up and down hike. The beginning from Muir beach parking lot is a little steep and long but it’s worth it!!
