This small but challenging loop route traverses an area that reminds one of pictures on the surface of the moon. It's a very strange place with many interesting side roads to explore. Connect to other trails in the area including Doran/Odessa Canyons and Wall Street Canyon Overlook). To make the trip more interesting, try the shortcut to Kramer Arch and the roller-coaster-like Mule Canyon Cut-Across Road. While in the area, make sure you visit Calico Ghost Town (fee area). Steep rocky climbs. Stretches of badly eroded pavement. Stock SUVs need skid plates and high ground clearance.

Fairly easy hike in cooler weather. Popular with off roaders. Carry sufficient water.

After driving this 6 mile loop I would rate it as moderate to challenging in some areas. The first half is really fun and most stock high clearance 4x4s won’t have an issue getting through with a spotter. However after the half way point where you descend down West Phillips it becomes pretty rocky and washed out, requiring you to hug one side to avoid deep washed out ruts. I did the last hour of this 3 hour loop in the dark and would not recommend doing this at night. I have a non lifted Tacoma with rock sliders and skid plates and definitely used all my armor on the second half of this trail. Really fun but have a spotter and know your vehicle!

fun easy trail with one spot moderate. 33's, no locker XJ crawled right thru the one section.

i haven't been on West Phillips Drive in about 10 years. It is much more challenging now after years of getting washed out. I made it pretty easily in a mostly stock Jeep JK on 35's.

Calico is full of trails, so I think I missed a couple of miles of this trail, but super easy. I’m in a stock Jeep and made it through with ease.
