Awesome ocean views, great picnic area, pretty canyon views This is a great hike from the Trippet Ranch in Topanga State Park to the Parker Mesa Overlook. The first section of the trail meanders through a lovely oak grove with lush green grass. Above Trippet Ranch, the trail traverses the ridgeline between Topanga and Santa Ynez Canyons, with views of giant sandstone slabs and the ocean peaking out between the folds of the mountains. The vista from the Parker Mesa Overlook is stunning. You can see all of the LA basin laid out before you, the snow capped San Gabriel Mountains to the east, Catalina Island to the south, and the crescent shaped coastline of Santa Monica to the west.

First time attempting mountain biking and it was a great to start off on. Very wide and well maintained, but enough hills and bumps to keep things exciting without getting too extreme. There is a $3/hr or $10/day parking fee if you choose to use the lot, but others will park outside of the gates.

A nice trail with a little steep up and then a nice walk with a view of the ocean and mountains. As mentioned by others, the smog was a bummer.

Easy terrain, some gain- I bet it’s gorgeous payoff on a clear day! The smog took a toll when I went but I still enjoyed.

Great hike!!! Would have earned 5 stars if it wasn't so hazy at Parker Mesa Overlook (PMO). Left Trippet Ranch at 10:30 and made it to the sign/fork in the road. Should I go to Eagle Rock or head toward PMO. Really was a tough decision for me. Having recently hiked the Eagle Rock-Temescal Peak look I opted for PMO. My Garmin registered 7.0 miles and 1250 ft elevation gain. Total hiking time including photos and snacks was right around 3 hours. Fire road is in good condition after having been recently graded. Really a roller coaster up and down hike and not a constant climb like Eagle Rock. Less hikers heading to the overlook from Trippet than heading toward Eagle Rock. Can't go wrong with either hike. For me, Eagle Rock-Temescal has better overall/varied views for the entire hike. However, on a clear day the views from Parker Mesa Overlook can't be beat!!! Another consideration...…...if it is a hot, sunny day there is more shade from the adjacent hills heading toward the PMO. You can't go wrong with either hike. If is the weekend be aware of mountain bike riders.

Perfect weather today for the hike. Being out of shape the uphills were tiring, but worth it to get the view. If you are in shape this is a super easy hike. All on a fire road, beautiful views all around.

I love this trail for running, it’s entirely on a fire road except for the last part that leads out to the overlook. Lots of deep ruts and big rocks that have come loose in the recent rains, but still a solid trail and nice and dry since we’ve had some sunshine! Great views...

Easy trail, would be perfect for trail running. Amazing views of the coast and dtla at the end. We lucked out and hiked it on a weekday and saw few people

This trail was fairly easy where there was no rock scrambling, entire trail was on fire road. It is a beautiful trail, moderate workout so not super challenging. I really enjoyed the solitude and scenery. I will probably come back on a sunny day, it was pretty cloudy today so the view was restricted at the overlook.

This was a great hike! We arrived at 7:30 and there were already a handful of people, but we still managed to get a parking in the front. The first mile or so of the hike is very nice, reminds me of being in a mystical forest. The view is amazing if you make it all the way. Take water and wear comfortable shoes!

Well groomed trail, but not very strenuous. I would rate it as easy. There are many other hikes in the area with better views. The lot doesn’t open until 8am, but there’s parking along the road before the State Park entrance.

Come before 8am and there is parking right outside the entrance to save the parking fee. No shade, good Mountain View

Note: Parking is $10 if you want to park in the parking lot The trail is easy to follow, there a several signs to point you in the right direction. The beginning part of the trail is cooler, has some shade coverage by the hill and trees. Along the trail, you can spot the big Eagle Rock at several points. Otherwise, the trail is very easy to follow to the overlook point. Overall, the trail is really nice to hike and not too challenging for hikers that have hiked up mountainous terrains. One note - there were 2 or 3 bikers on this trail so it may be common for mountain bikers to do this trail

This is a FANTASTIC hike. It's easy to get to. Park in the (large) parking lot in Topanga State Park, or just slightly down the hill before having to pay to park. The trail is the typical red dirt found in CA. It's wide and very easy to follow. There is no way to get lost. It's a simple out and back. There are inclines/declines and they are spaced nicely throughout the 6.5 miles. I'd call this moderate for most hikers and easy for a strong hiker. There isn't a lot of shade, so wear a hat and bring sunscreen. It's only lightly trafficed. I did not run into very many people. The views at the end of the overlook are phenomenal. You can see most of the LA valley. I went on a clear day and could see Catalina Island in the distance.

The city/ocean/mountain view at the end of this trail was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen! This trail is definitely worth it, highly recommend. The views are amazing the whole way.

Absolutely a beautiful trail ending in a great view overlooking the ocean. The hike has very well maintained trails which is always a plus and some benches to relax and take in the views.
