Beautiful trail with great tall trees. The first part is narrow and doesn’t allow for bikes, making it more hiker-friendly than other parts of Joaquin Miller!

Great trail overall, most of it was shaded which was pretty nice for hot day hike! We saw two little rattle snakes, and I was terrified. There are lots of trails there and it’s quite possible to follow another path is not using a map. There are signs but the names of the trails change, looks like every part of the trail had a name: sunset, wild rose, etc! Overall we loved it and recommend it for sure. People were observing social distancing rules and most people had their face covered. There are picnic tables there and people were picnicking unfortunately!

Great loop if you've got a couple of hours. Most of the trails are wide enough to keep 6ft from oncoming people. Sunny in the morning. Nice view of Mount Diablo at one point. Depending on which direction you go, there's going to be a huge, long incline or decline at the beginning or end. The other end is more gradual.

I wouldn’t recommend this trail during the COVID-19 physical distancing recommendation period during peak hours (eg weekends). Lots of narrow single track at the very beginning/very end with no places to easily pass. Very end was also slippery, use caution. Tacked on extra mile to do Lookout Point.

Great route. If you go clockwise, the climb is in the front half of the route. The chaparral trail was narrow and had lots of poison oak so be careful! Definitely not an easy hike. Wear your hiking boots and bring poles if you need them.

Nice trails, good for trail running. My pup and I had a great hike. Pay attention to the trail signs if you don't have a map as there are lots of trails that are adjacent to each other and look super similar. Would have been fun to explore with more time. I would go during the week to avoid all the foot traffic, dogs off leash (if that's something that bothers you), and mountain bikes on these tiny trails. Plenty of shade and nice decent incline for those booty gains.

A beautiful fairy-tale like trail. It’s a narrow sun dappled trail from the trailhead and then a bit of an ascent once you get to the loop part. Lots of bikers on that loop so beware if you’re on foot. I actually started this hike at Dimond Park and crossed under the highway to pick up this trail. See my recording.

Hands down my FAVORITE hike in the east bay. Not an easy trail if you’re just getting into hiking or if you’re older or with toddlers. The trail is very narrow. It has an awesome view of the bay, the city and Oakland. There are tons of options and trails to eventually explore Joaquin Miller park. The original trail opening had a tree down and closures so I followed a path up the hill (see starting point). It was destiny to find this path as the original trail probably runs along the river. Plan your route if you want to go to a specific area. It’s steep to cross the river and I only had running shoes and not my normal hiking boots. I’d be cautious about going this trail after rain fall or “fall/winter” in the Bay since the paths are narrow and you’ll likely suffer a severe injury if you go down the hills. Best hike again hands down when the weather is nice. Careful of bikers as they have the right of way with the narrow path.

This was a great trail. The flies/gnats/mosquitos are thick in some spots as it follows a creek/stream. It walks up to a picnic area that has BBQ grills and looked like a nice spot for the family. The trail headed up but I turned to follow another loop around. there are multiple trails and ways to go around. if you wanted to get in several miles, you could. there is also hit and miss cell service in the area and I was able to follow google maps for trail locations. it was a nice hike. I recommend it. Be aware, that when I got home, I found a tick on my shirt.

Muddy! Go counterclockwise for a steeper initial climb. Some glimpses of the city across the bay as you go. A few patches of lovely redwoods.

It’s a beautiful trail. I think it’s closer to 4 miles, based on my Fitbit. Some rocky terrain, and steady inclines and declines. Definitely a moderate hike.

Did this hike after a few weeks of rain showers. The creeks were flowing and the small waterfalls were gorgeous! There are some steep portions, especially Wild Rose Trail, but overall pretty easy/moderate in difficulty. Some sneak peek views of the city through the trees, and if you look closely you can catch a glimpse of a rusted out car, slowly decomposing in the trees that mysteriously found its way onto the hillside! Overall nice Sunday afternoon hike. You do share some of the trail with bikers.

We loved this hike and especially that some segments were bike-free given that our dog gets triggered by them. Wasn't very crowded on this Sunday afternoon. Loved being within the shaded forests (minimal exposed areas) and hearing the creek next to us. Like others have said, the Wild Rose segment is definitely moderate and not easy!

Beware, this is a Moderate hike!!! NOT EASY, there is over 800 ft elevation climb for a while. Needs to be updated in the app. However, it is one of my favorites. Beautiful hike, varied terrain, can be lots of bikes at times.
