This is a popular off-road driving area. The map shown on this page covers a mostly gravel road that starts at the end of Marron Valley Road and continues up the Otay Mountain Truck Trail to Doghouse Junction, and then to Otay Mountain summit. If you are off-road driving, this route is easy. If you are hiking or biking, this would be moderate. The route could likely be done with a crossover or hybrid bike. Some visitors may wish to extend their trip by continuing north on the Minnewawa Truck Trail to the Pio Pico Campground. Given the proximity to the border, you will likely see several Border Patrol vehicles. There are several off-shoots of this main trail that may provide more of a challenge.

I started from the RV resort and made a left at the junction. This off shoot of the main trail is a breath a fresh air. The main trail is fun with great views, but once you've made the left turn onto the dirt road the fun begins. 4wd is not needed for the most part but it's bumpy and fun with a few technical spots. While you're out there you may as well try the other trails!
