best hiked in winter or on a cool day. did this both uphill and down. rode horses but stayed off the rocky part near the candy store. Actually rode all the way to Round Potrero and back. Easier on horses. Beautiful scenery. Bring water and trail mix. Carrots too.

Beautiful scenery, but very hot. Bring a lot of water. Rancho Carrillo vehicle entrance is locked to the public.
