HikingGreat!

I love the Orcutt trails. I do recommend parking in Rice Ranch road or in the small parking area off the Orcutt Hill oil road just off Rice Ranch and then hiking the trails to the north/west of the townhomes. Do not park at the community park and head east, as that does go behind the subdivision and isn’t anything special. Take water, wear some shoes with traction soles, and please please keep your dogs on leashes. As others have mentioned there is active wildlife including bobcats, coyotes, deer, and the occasional mountain lion. In the spring after rains it is green and lovely with wildflowers. This is a mixed use trail system so watch for bikers. You can go many times and mix up your route so it doesn’t get boring, and also to avoid crowds. There are hills, flats, and loops. Very family friendly.

The loop basically goes around a construction site and a subdivision. Wouldn’t go on this again.

WalkingGreat!

Lots of open space, big trails and detour trails. Enough space to accommodate a lot of people, but there usually isn't too many people. Some days you'll see maybe 2-3 people tops in 3 hours. Lots of spots to just sit down and chill out. Happy to call this home turf

Hiking

I went on a warm summer day. This hike has no shade and doesn’t really go into the open space, it skirts it. I was hoping to get to explore the open space but there are fences and signs all along the way to indicate the beautiful wild area is private property.

This is a great maintained trail. There are multiple trails in the area and some beautiful scenery. I recommend taking the Valley View Trail. Give yourself at least 2 hours to really explore this area. I will definitely be back!

Walking

This walk begins at a beautiful new outdoor sport area. The .7 mile paved loop includes workout stops. Then the trail heads East through an open field. This mildly trafficked single track trail is well maintained with sweeping views of the distant tree covered hills. This trail winds behind the freshly constructed Grove housing development and continues along the southern edge until you reach the East most point. At this point you should just return back to the open space the way you just came, unless you enjoy trespassing through unconstructed neighborhoods and along poorly made, slopes and Unmaintained trails. The best part of this hike is the northern-most, high-level return trail through the open space. A lovely hilly trail meanders around lazy oaks. The double dog park is gorgeous. Rice Ranch is a Great place for families, novice mountain bikers and dog walkers.

Decent trail that is as challenging as you want to make it. It doesn't have a lot of areas with sustained elevation gain, but there are some steep areas that I do repeatedly to stay in shape for longer mountain hikes. My dog loves this place, so I walk him here often. As of late, there are a lot more people using these trails, so please keep distance and bring a mask. No water on the trail and usually dry. Lots of mountain bikers. on IG as @picbynathan

Really nice area In our back yard. Without having to drive very far this is a nice area for Mountain biking. it's very easy to walk the trails but biking some of the step hills is a different story. Very good workout biking to the top and some downhills can be dangerous . Over all it's a fun place to get out of the house for a bit

Really enjoyable as a non-runner, especially with my dog. Never a bad time to go, cold or heat wise. Normally I park out on the street on Rice Ranch road instead of the park, much easier and better starting point IMO.

Nice view on top of the hills. Today, I was walking down the hill that came upon a bobcat. Watch Out!
