Good trail, but needs more signage! Parking was free and easy to find. I went counterclockwise and did the horse path/next to the freeway trail which was nicely shaded, flat and easy so I jogged the first half of the “hike” as a warmup. I got a bit lost heading up to the Old Zoo and found the more hiking and mountainous bits which had some nice steep inclines. The trail disappears and I walked uphill on the side of the road until I saw a trail and ended up cutting through Rattlesnake trail when I couldn’t see signage once again. In total I wound up hiking 9.5 miles in 4 hours.

Nice & lengthy hike. Had some points of incline, and towards the end youre walking right next to a freeway. Very light traffic on a Thursday afternoon.

Hard to follow at times but fun on a summer day. Know that you will go from trail to road to just crossing open park areas.

Trail is okay but the name can be misleading, you will pass by a old zoo has a couple old cages they are cool to take picture and play in but that’s only a small part of the trail very small lol so don’t expect to see a whole empty zoo

Good trail but it’s really 8 miles but there’s barely any good pictures not worth the scenery

The highway can be loud but it's only part of trail. Went on a Monday morning not that busy. Nice easy trail. The portable toilets were nasty. Some some of the wild parrots by the old zoo.

Boring. Loop is around 9 miles instead of 7. Horse poop everywhere

This hike was kind of an adventure, finding the trail wasn’t easy for me or staying on the red line on the app. Ran into about 6 horses, lots of horse poop btw.

This one is fine if you want a quick hike. It’s very pretty but the graffiti everywhere is a huge bummer

Not a bad trail for a full day. Would of been a 5 star but you walk along the 5 freeway. Otherwise beautiful views through the hills.

Probably awesome for trail running... As a hike it's pretty boring. Not very scenic. Keeps you in the lower foothills for one half and then in between 2 golf courses and the 5 fwy for the second half. There is a tunnel that is flooded in front of the new zoo. You literally have to get off the trail and cross in front of the 5 fwy off ramp / on ramp to get around it. As far as the old zoo...there are much better trails that you could incorporate with that to make it more fun.

This is longer than 7 miles. One tunnel by the new zoo is flooded.

First half was good. We added bee rock to our hike. The coming back to the car through park playgrounds and the golf course parallel to the freeway sucked. Just wasn’t the atmosphere we were looking for. Seeing the “ruins” of the old zoo was awesome.

we did this on Christmas Day and if was a little rainy but it was surprising how many people were up there hiking and some pretty nice views and it greened up real well because of the rain

Great loop ! The outlined trail is not accurate when you get to Old Zoo Trail. There are a lot of little trails that go everywhere, I would suggest staying on Old Zoo Trail and coming out on paved road that leads you to Crystal Springs Dr. I got 7.2 miles and 664 ft elevation gain. There is little bit of everything in this loop, definitely will be doing it again. You can also start from anywhere and cut it shorter or add more mileage easily.

The former zoo is a bit disturbing, but is fortunately a very small part of the course mapped. The course is definitely easy to moderate. 90+% fire/horse trail. I would enjoy this one again.

I only give this 1 star. It's more of a walk/run than a hike. The last part is walking/running on a trail off the street between two golf course. I recommend if you want to truly hike. Make it and in and out with a couple of the other trails mixed in. There are many trails that branch off this loop. Don't take the loop unless you just want the miles.

Great trail to walk your dog. Views include the 5 N and the valley. There are horses on the trail, make sure you move out of their way and your dog doesn't spook them. My dog sat in awe as I fed him treats and he watched them walk right past him. Stay away from the sides of the trail, rattlesnakes like to hide in all the leaves.
