The two miles from the trailhead down to Buck Creek are very steep, narrow, and right along the cliff. A little precarious to pass people, and a bit stressful with an eager dog. Buck Creek is a beautiful stop, and the old cabin is a neat spot to stop if you want to camp there. Beautiful water spot next to a waterfall. The river was a bit too rough here for swimming in late May after a week of rain, but I imagine it gets more calm in the summer. We continued on two more miles to get to Eight Mile Creek. The two miles between Buck Creek and Eight Mile Creek are lovely. Much more flat (still some up and downs, but much easier in comparison to the first two miles), a couple super fun opportunities for forging a few creeks, a beautiful meadow, and nowhere near the precarious cliff edges. Once we got to Eight Mile Creek, we went left for about 1/4 of a mile and got to the most beautiful shaded river access point. The water is so clear and gorgeous, and was quite swimmable. Great swimming hole. Very cold, but calm and swimmable. A few beautiful campsites near the river. We weren't camping this time, but would love to next time. Overall, beautiful trail, and the eight miles were super doable for one day. Quite a bit of an uphill trek on the way back, but not outrageous. My one warning would be that the first two miles along the cliff are indeed precarious. I wouldn't recommend for kids, or dogs that aren't trained well. Also need to mention that poison oak is practically everywhere. Be careful!

I did the South Kelsey Trail. It's very steep in the beginning with a thin trail (don't trip), then you get to a nice cabin at Buck Creek where there is a great swimming spot next to a waterfall! Keep going and get to Elkhorn where thier are a bunch of mosquitos!! 1 mile past that is 8-mile creek which also offers a great swimming spot! This hike is full of lovely views, and magical trails.

Good trail. Lots of great views. We encountered a rattlesnake. Added a little extra fun to our hike.

Nice trail I did the 1st time 3 years ago. Back then it had a nice info board about the history of the trail. It's gone and likely someone took it home with them. A very enjoyable trail in the middle of nowhere. As you will see in the pics it was hot... Grouped this with 3 others and had a great day with the dog.
