Note: Due to COVID-19, the main entrance and parking lot is closed. However, you can still park on Frederickson Lane and walk the extra distance to the park from there. Park Features: Contra Loma’s 780 acres of parkland offers a diverse range of recreational activities such as swimming, boating, fishing and hiking. The park has an 80-acre reservoir and a swim lagoon that has a sandy beach, concession stands, and shaded picnic areas. The reservoir is stocked with catfish, black and striped bass, bluegill, trout, and red-eared sunfish for fishing. A Daily Fishing Access Permit is required to fish and is available for purchase at the park entry kiosk. Trails Highlights: A scenic, looping trail has wide views of the reservoir, delta and neighboring golf course. The unpaved trail travels through rolling grasslands and scattered oak woodlands, with wildflowers in season. This trail has very little shade and no water, so try to do this trail early in the day or outside of the summer months. Trail Directions: After passing entry kiosk, make first right at East Lake Road. Park in the parking lot near the corrals, and access the trail through the cattle gate. Make a left onto Old Ranch Loop Trail and head away from the corral. The trail will loop around and bring you back to where you started in just under 3 miles. Park Hours: Sunrise to Dusk Fees: $5 per vehicle; $4 per trailered vehicle. Buses: $25/per bus. $2 per dog. Guide/service dogs free. Beach Access; $3 ages 16-61, $2 age 1-15, $2 seniors 62+ or disabled, Free under 1 year of age. More info: http://www.ebparks.org/parks/contra_loma

Pros, I mean it’s a short loop trail with easy inclines. I went on a mild day in January when the grass was short and shade (or lack thereof) was not an issue. Cons, it’s pretty much just a cow field. Keep your eyes down to avoid cow pies. Oh, and unless you park up the road there is an entry fee.

We did this walk in July and the grasses were very dry and lots of foxtails and other pokey seeds. Our dogs didn’t enjoy the trail like he usually does. We had stop frequently and take pokey out of his paws.

We always start from the bottom of the hill on the community park side. I love all the wildlife and animals. Sometimes we go up to both hills. A family favorite

The trail is mowed and follows the boundary of the park. The ground is dry and cracked, so watch your step. Saw a couple of turkeys under a tree (not many around here). This is a good beginner trail, but nothing remarkable about it.

Not well maintained. Hiking through tall weeds, uneven ground and not well defined.

This trail is basically just a ride along a fence in a cattle pasture.... If you even want to call it a trail. There was no cut trail. It was bumpy cattle tracks and uncut grass.

Spent most of the time looking down to avoid cow pies and holes. Saw lots of cows, ground squirrels, a jack rabbit, hawk and an egret. Not a very scenic hike.

First to Review

Basically a Hugh cow pasture. Trail follows the perimeter fence all the way around. It was great too be near the cows. However the ground was very dry with high cracks. Not fun too walk on.
