Beginning at Mission Dam parking lot. Up the Saddle to S. Fortuna. Onward down the 'staircase' into the valley, across the river and toward the Visitor's Center. Cross the road and up Climber's Loop. Off trail at top of ascent and scramble up rocky path. Head for the peak to find trail back to Dam.

General area is awesome for variety and scenery; however, the trail between Kaway Paay Peak and the Visitor Center is closed. Still recommend this route just use Father Junipero Serra Trail for the mentioned closed section.

Definitely enjoyed the challenge of this trail. Coming down off Fortuna is probably the most trying part because of the rocks, there is also a steep incline when you first start on the South Fortuna trail. There is a series of trails in this area so just keep the all trails app going and you'll navigate just fine. Gorgeous trail, I enjoyed the changing of terrains!

Kwaay Peak is really fun but I could not find the trail down. I ended up going back down Kwaay Peak and ran south Fortuna to the stairs. 7 miles ended up being 10.5.

Straight up hill with some nice scenery. Walked in from the initial driveway before the guest/visitor center which made the round trip a bit under six miles at 5.6 miles. The iPhone tracker said we hit 67 flights of stairs. The dam before hand is a fun little explore around. My cattle dog is worn out so bring plenty of water if you're with your pup. If he's toast it's a tough go. Happy hiking!
