Gorgeous hike, we did it at sunset to watch full moon rise, was perfect for that use!!
Beautiful trail, well-maintained, easy to follow, with great views at the top. In mid-April, there were still plenty of wildflowers and water flowing through the creek. We met only one other person on the trail, a lovely woman on horseback who was kind enough to let us pass on the way to the summit – and who happened to be the wife (Peggy) of the gentlemen (Bernie) who built the trail! We met at the top and chatted for a while as we enjoyed the spectacular 360 degree views. She told us about her husband’s experience in building the trail. It seems that he did most of the work himself, following a plan from a trail architect (Clay), with occasional help from friends, over 2+ years ending in the mid 90s. This was all as a volunteer! I have often wondered about the process of building a trail and what is involved - hard work, dedication, and generosity seem to be the main “ingredients”. We were sad to hear that Bernie passed away only a couple of months ago. What a pleasure and privilege it was to spend part of our Sunday talking with his wife while enjoying the beautiful legacy Bernie left behind. Peggy shared that her friends all refer to the trail as “Bernie’s Peak”. Hope everyone else enjoys it as much as we did!
Nice little hike. Well-maintained trail and a gorgeous 360 view to greet you. Oaks and Manzanilla...yeah. Lots of that.
Enjoyed this hike! Nice views.
Trail was easy to find and well marked. Overall its a moderate challenge with some loose rocks throughout certain sections. Shaded while traversing near the creek.
Great views at the Pinnacle, similar to Cuyamaca Peak and Stonewall Peak. I recommend those, too.
There is a registry at the top tucked between some boulders.
Just under 6 miles round trip.
Recorded and uploaded two tracks: Ascent & Descent
There in November. So clear we could see Point Loma from the summit. One of the best panorama views in the county. Only saw one other group on the trail. Very peaceful. We'll be back!
Loved this hike and it has an amazing breath taking view.
Good trail I was the only one on the trail I didn't see or encounter another person the entire way. It was kinda cold today though glad I wore I long sleeve shirt, overall a good hike easy to follow trail and good scenery
Great views from the top!
Only hiked this trail from the trailhead to Monument Trail. It follows the highway and is narrow with some fallen trees. Pretty boring.
