North trailhead: From North Palm Canyon Drive, turn west at Vista Chino; turn right on Via Norte; turn left on Chino Canyon Road; turn left on Panorama Road; turn left on Cielo Drive; turn left on an unmarked roadway. The trailhead is unnamed but marked with a sign asking hikers to stay on the established trails. South trailhead: Take East Ramon Road to its end. The trailhead is marked at the entrance to a preambulatory. At the base of the rise, follow the left ascent. (The right ascent comes to a dead end within a half mile.)

Going up this trail from the south entrance off of Ramon is great, with views of the valley. It’s a gradual incline. The trail is fairly easy to follow. There is some loose gravel and rocks along the trail but nothing too treacherous. However I would recommend going down the Museum trail or turn around at the picnic tables and backtrack. I continued north in this trail and after awhile it was difficult to figure out the path with some overgrowth of the shrubs. It was a bit steep at times, with loose rocks and gravel. Luckily I had gps on this app and was able to make my way down. I stopped enjoying the hike and just wanted it to be done. The last 0.5-0.3 miles were very difficult as I was unsure the path and some steep rocky areas and cactus like plants to maneuver around. If you are up for a bit of an adventure you can finish out this hike but if you are new to hiking and want a more straight forward hike then I’d pass.

We hiked from the South trail head to the north. Should have taken the advice from a local and just go to the picnic tables and back down the same way. After the picnic tables trail becomes very narrow and hard to find in places. Would do it again but only to the tables and back down same way.

Another great morning overlooking the Coachella Valley. Wildflowers are still blooming here, but starting to fade a little. Cactus blooms are about to burst, so this next weekend will be ideal. Thank you to those performing trail maintenance recently. It was very challenging on the knees and ankles after all the rainfall. But now it is smooth sailing again and I was able to run parts of it once again.

We hiked this from the North trailhead directions today and found it to be a beautiful hike. After quickly climbing up to the picnic tables, we descended down into a valley which ran the length of a man made dam. When we got to the other side, the grass was so thick, plus the rains had washed out the trail in places that we couldn’t figure out where the trail was taking us. So we decided to call it quits and walk to the other side of the dam wall. This is something you should not do. The only way to get out into the residential part was to crawl through a hole in the chain link fence. Then once we did that, we were stuck inside a gated cul de sac with an abandoned mansion. Luckily we were able to squeeze under the security gate to escape. By the time we called it quits we had walked for 1.5 hours. If we had continued it looks like we would have had to climb a ridge to continue to Ramon. That would have taken another 2 hours of climbing with that steep elevation. There are not many markers on this trail so be prepared.

Great trail. Taking the north trail head is the steep direction. 4.3 miles and it gets your heat rate up

Pretty sure the north trail head is gone. We had much trouble finding it. We ended up hiking from the south. Had to scramble down a few very tight sections. Probably need some local insight into why the trail head is gone.

Good path ... easy to follow ... just watch for the left turn onto path about 200 yds in from the parking spot. Did this hike early this morning ... started at 7am to avoid the heat of the day. Great views down across Palm Springs as you wind up the path.

We did this at sunrise to avoid the heat. Most of the early part of the trail gets shade from the canyon (at least early in the day). We climbed up to the high point of the trail and then back. The trail carries on to "South Lykken" but it did not worth the extra effort to get back to the car. (Intersection with the Skyline trail had me tempted. But 114F is not a day for that one). (And this is easy to find and starts right off the main road in Palm Springs).

Easy to find trailhead. Trail was clean and elevation was doable. Lots of rocks and boulders. Several hikers on this trail. Beautiful views of Palm Springs.

EVERYONE!!! Please take caution while parking at the trail head at the end of Ramon Rd. We were about to start hiking when we noticed another vehicle had its window smashed and had been broken into. (We notifiedPalm Springs PD)There was also evidence of broken glass 10 yards down where additional parking is. Be safe out there. Sorry it wouldn’t let me write this without putting stars, just wanted to give the hiking community a heads up. I can’t truly rate this trail as I haven’t hiked it.

Another classic Palm Springs hike -- similar terrain to the South Lykken trail, but follows a secluded canyon up to the top of a mountain ridge rather than trails along the rim -- some striking views and scenery -- highly recommended.

Notes on North trailhead: the trailhead on W Cielo Drive is accurately described, but the map shows the trail ending at a completely different place, on W Crescent Dr between N Patencio Rd and N Via Monte Vista. From Cielo Drive trailhead, trail climbs very steeply in short switchbacks up the side of the ridge between Chino Canyon and Tachevah Canyon. At the crest are two picnic tables and extensive views. From the ridge the trail descends sharply then traverses the headwall above Old Las Palmas.,

Wonderful Easter morning hike. We just hiked to the peak and back about 2.2 miles.

Though rated “moderate,” trail certainly has its climbing moments. Sweeping views of the valley and, in the spring, beautiful wild flowers. Like most desert hikes, best to start early in the day as it can get HOT as there is no shade whatsoever. Also this was about the limit for my 12yr old — though admittedly he’s been going thru his tween phase.

Very solid Palm Springs hike. Some of the pictures don't do justice as to how nice a hike it is. Few things to note. Easiest way up and down (to the picnic tables that is) is using Ramon Road trailhead. Trail is well maintained, nothing treacherous. It is a climb. Many people did not go down the Museum trail because of how steep it is. Lastly, there is vegetation that will bloom shortly. The rocks/boulders are pretty (combo granite and sedimentary "intrusive"/uplift stuff).

great views...a little noisy but still nice.

We took this trail down towards the golf course after climbing up on the Museum Trail. It was a much less used trail and the trail was not much more than a dry stream bed in many locations. There are some spots where a trail marking would have helped out. the hike down was easy, but if we had gone up it would have been more of a scramble.

Favorite trail in Palm Springs!! A lot of straight up climbing and rather long hike overall, but the view from the top is incredible. Highly recommend for those who like a little challenge when hiking. Pack a lot of water and go early in the day.
