North trailhead: From North Palm Canyon Drive, turn west at Vista Chino; turn right on Via Norte; turn left on Chino Canyon Road; turn left on Panorama Road; turn left on Cielo Drive; turn left on an unmarked roadway. The trailhead is unnamed but marked with a sign asking hikers to stay on the established trails. South trailhead: Take East Ramon Road to its end. The trailhead is marked at the entrance to a preambulatory. At the base of the rise, follow the left ascent. (The right ascent comes to a dead end within a half mile.)

We did this at sunrise to avoid the heat. Most of the early part of the trail gets shade from the canyon (at least early in the day). We climbed up to the high point of the trail and then back. The trail carries on to "South Lykken" but it did not worth the extra effort to get back to the car. (Intersection with the Skyline trail had me tempted. But 114F is not a day for that one). (And this is easy to find and starts right off the main road in Palm Springs).

Easy to find trailhead. Trail was clean and elevation was doable. Lots of rocks and boulders. Several hikers on this trail. Beautiful views of Palm Springs.

EVERYONE!!! Please take caution while parking at the trail head at the end of Ramon Rd. We were about to start hiking when we noticed another vehicle had its window smashed and had been broken into. (We notifiedPalm Springs PD)There was also evidence of broken glass 10 yards down where additional parking is. Be safe out there.

Sorry it wouldn’t let me write this without putting stars, just wanted to give the hiking community a heads up. I can’t truly rate this trail as I haven’t hiked it.

Another classic Palm Springs hike -- similar terrain to the South Lykken trail, but follows a secluded canyon up to the top of a mountain ridge rather than trails along the rim -- some striking views and scenery -- highly recommended.

Notes on North trailhead: the trailhead on W Cielo Drive is accurately described, but the map shows the trail ending at a completely different place, on W Crescent Dr between N Patencio Rd and N Via Monte Vista.
From Cielo Drive trailhead, trail climbs very steeply in short switchbacks up the side of the ridge between Chino Canyon and Tachevah Canyon. At the crest are two picnic tables and extensive views. From the ridge the trail descends sharply then traverses the headwall above Old Las Palmas.,

Wonderful Easter morning hike. We just hiked to the peak and back about 2.2 miles.

Though rated “moderate,” trail certainly has its climbing moments. Sweeping views of the valley and, in the spring, beautiful wild flowers. Like most desert hikes, best to start early in the day as it can get HOT as there is no shade whatsoever. Also this was about the limit for my 12yr old — though admittedly he’s been going thru his tween phase.

Very solid Palm Springs hike. Some of the pictures don't do justice as to how nice a hike it is. Few things to note. Easiest way up and down (to the picnic tables that is) is using Ramon Road trailhead. Trail is well maintained, nothing treacherous. It is a climb. Many people did not go down the Museum trail because of how steep it is. Lastly, there is vegetation that will bloom shortly. The rocks/boulders are pretty (combo granite and sedimentary "intrusive"/uplift stuff).

We took this trail down towards the golf course after climbing up on the Museum Trail. It was a much less used trail and the trail was not much more than a dry stream bed in many locations. There are some spots where a trail marking would have helped out. the hike down was easy, but if we had gone up it would have been more of a scramble.

Favorite trail in Palm Springs!! A lot of straight up climbing and rather long hike overall, but the view from the top is incredible. Highly recommend for those who like a little challenge when hiking. Pack a lot of water and go early in the day.

Beautiful hike, with amazing views. Easy to maneuver trail, and did not disappoint with plenty of big horn sheep.

Park on the side of the road where Ramon dead ends. There is a sign by the trailhead to the left, if you follow what looks to be the trail going up towards the right you will not be on the trail! Made that mistake the first time. Pretty steep trail but the view of the city is worth it. You know you've reached the top when you get to the picnic tables. took 1 human and 1 tiny dog 2 hours to complete with plenty of breaks. I wouldn't recommend during the day in the summer as there is zero shade. I would definitely check this one out if you get a chance.

Ran this one way from the north and had a hard time finding the trailhead, it's a pretty steep climb to start from that end. But it's a great, challenging 2-mile trail with incredible views of the valley along the way. I'll probably bring the crew back tomorrow for a more leisurely hike ;)
