It’s open I hiked this one recently. I don’t know why u called it deer canyon tho. Deer canyon is off ticketron trail where there is deer cyn camp ground. This trail is mostly on the ridge except the ending which goes down El Moro cyn. The parts on rattle snake are rocky and some narrow trail on the ridge which sometimes gets biker traffic.

Overall great trail, even better on weekdays when there aren’t a lot of bicycles. No shade but a small breeze if your lucky from the ocean

This trail and camp is pretty good for anyone that’s wants to get into backpacking. Bring plenty of water and breathable clothes. Didn’t see much wildlife other that birds and hares.

Great wide open trail with exception to a mile or so stretch on the second half. (Went counterclockwise). Saw two snakes, one rattler, and one gopher snake. Some great views to the ocean. Overall a great workout, will definitely go again.

no shade, if you're planning to hike here wear light clothes, cap, sun screen, you can also bring a hiking stick

Great trail in Newport Coast. Done many others. First time on this beauty. Many areas for beautiful pics. Challenging hike, uphill & down. Overgrown with reeds and mustard in some parts. Single track for half and a wide service road for other portions. No shade. Bring lots of water. Gold for kids 12+

Nice trail with a wonderful view of the ocean. Mostly fire road.

Wild mustard flowers galore... there was a little gully that would be dangerous for mountain bikers, especially if they couldn't see it due to the mustards covering the path.

Obviously a popular place to go! Quite a few people sharing the trail on the way in but drops off the further you go in and becomes more secluded. 0 shade so make sure to bring proper sun protection. The hike back up through Rattlesnake Trail is the best part. Some "mini scrambling" and cool places to rest for 5 mins and enjoy the view. Not my favorite hike in the area but still worth the outing :).

Great trail but that Poles section was tough! Bring lots of water, there is no shade on this trail!

So far the best hike ever! Hiked the ELEVATOR! It was a beast so make sure your on beast mode when you take it!!! We even seen a huge deer! I highly recommend this hike if you want a challenge. We did 9.1 miles in 3.22 hours. Via No Name Ridge to Moro Ridge to Elevator.

It’s moderate to hard, great workout due to all the hills.

Great work out. This loop has a lot if great hills to climb. Poles Trail is a bitch! Lol. Not sure why it says $15 to park above-this is the back way to El Moro and you just park on street free.
