History buffs and solitude lovers will appreciate this hike. Free wilderness permit required for overnight visitors. Free campfire permits required for fires and camp stoves. Trails in the Trinity Alps are always open: however, most trailhead access roads are closed or impassable during winter. NOTE: This area was affected by wildfires in 2006 and 2008. Check with rangers on habitat recovery and trail conditions before a trip here. Be aware of poison oak and rattlesnakes.

Beautiful, but I would stay away from this area. Many of the trails are poorly maintained or were damaged by past fires. . The locals are super unfriendly and will go out of their way to hassle you, even when you are on public land. Most private property in the New River is illegal, unpermitted weed grows or worse, so be super sure to steer clear of private land.
