Murray Hill From Palm Hills Drive is a 6.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Palm Springs, California that features a river and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, rock climbing, and nature trips.
This is the direct and far lesser traveled route to Murray Hill. Park east of Vons at the road up to the Goat Trails, walk up about 1.5 miles to the palm wash trail on the south side of the road and back up to the steel trail sign. From here its a fantastic climb up the east side of Murray Hill on a sandy track.
none
Hike along the main trail until you pass a large (12-foot) stone heart formation that someone made. About 30 yards further take the small trail to your left. This trail leads directly into the canyon and to the oasis. On the way you'll also come across a metal sign "Jane's Hoffbrau" but, unfortunately, you won't find any beer there.
The easiest and fastest way to get there is to park behind Vons off 111 near Gene Autry Trail and walk up the dirt road. There are lots of trails that connect to this so you can also get there from Araby Trail, Murray Canyon trails, Goat Trails and others.
great trail, it's actually closer to 9 miles to reach the peak from where the directions tell you to park. the last mile was the toughest. great views
Great hike. Nice challenge especially the last qtr mile! Love you can bring your dog most of the way. Great practice hike for cactus to clouds
Start early and bring plenty of water! Not crowded, but there is very little shade. The last slog up to the top is a BEAST but totally worth it! I had cell service the entire way, but always download the map as trail markings are few to nonexistent... just follow that little blue dot. Loved this one!
Definitely bring at least a liter of water per person (I don’t usually drink much on trail). This trail took us about 2:45, but we weren’t going for speed and had a pretty relaxed pace. What was a surprise was that it ends with a legitimate summit once you turn onto the Clara Burgess trail. Definitely recommend, but I would assume a slower pace for your first time here navigating turns offs and whatnot
it was a great hike. very challenging. make sure you take enough water because there isn't much shade throughout the trail. Great views of all of palms springs and other cities in the valley.
So today was faster up (2 hours) and down was even faster! morning is definitely better!
Nice little challenging hike with great views at the top. There is a little shortcut back down go left at the small heart and you meet back up at the road by the tanks.
