Getting There

Be advised. This hike involves stairs and quite a lot of them! Be mindful of this if you’re bringing your dog or looking for a hike and you haven’t done one in quite awhile. You have to do the stairs on the way up, so make sure you save some energy for it! They’re kind of steep and can be brutal if you’re not ready for it. The road to there has great views of the coastline. First part of the walk is on a road. You have to park in the neighborhood. Then from there basically follow the graffiti ! There’s no shade on the road. You come to a yellow gate that blocks cars, keep going. You’ll come to another fence with an opening and you’ll see stairs to the right. 524 steps. It is best to walk clockwise in the loop, starting by going down the stairs to the left. The stairs are long and a bit short and narrow - so watch your step! At the bottom of the stairs continue left to walk around the compound. It is super interesting to see 1930's structures here knowing it was an old ant-semitic / Nazi activity campground.

Street parking on Casale Road or an adjacent road.

From Sunset Boulevard, 3 miles west of the 405, turn north at the light onto Capri Drive. After 1/3 mile continue through the traffic circle, remaining on Capri Drive for another 1/3 mile until it comes to and end at Casale Road. Sullivan Ridge Fire road begins to the left.

Great hike, we got lost a couple of times, due to loosing phone and my AllTrails app signal, but we ended up in the building with all the graffiti, it was great. Then we went up the stairs, holly macaronis, that was the stairs from hell. My Morenita Hermosa loved them stairs, i liked them just my right knee was hurting already, and my brace came undone. My Morenita and I are planning on going back to explore other hikings in the area. Love you Morenita Hermosa, thanks for being my hiking partner. Love you with all of my heart.

Great hike but check your pets for a ticks when you leave. Just hiked today and my dog had several ticks after.

I’m not sure why anyone would go clockwise to avoid coming up the stairs, seeing as this is the only semi challenging part of the outdoor walk (because it’s not really a hike.) Even if you do go counterclockwise to go up the stairs as I did, I wouldn’t consider this “moderate” if you hike with any frequency. The stairs portion is less than 10 minutes and the rest is a very gradual slope through a weird and eerie graffitied canyon. Lots of overgrown areas and LOTS of spiderwebs. Came on a Wednesday morning and it was empty. If you’re just concerned about getting your steps in, this will do. Parking is weird.

Enjoyable trail. A rattlesnake crossed our path near the river.

Fun! Went off trail most of it and as a beginner it was death. But so worth it!

A decent trail with few people in a Friday afternoon. But there were two young white guys smoking in the forest.

Moderate traffic trail. Crazy expensive houses near the trailhead. Went clockwise. Steps down. Was careful going down. Nice trail at the bottom. Graffiti everywhere makes for a different hiking experience. Fun time.

I love it!! Super cool things to see! I would do it again and sure I could see a lot more things I missed. Follow this map... go to the left at the split.... or go clock wise and down the steps. Easier to walk down the steps and back up on the pavement. Was a clean and nice hike with lots of things to see

Cool trail- short and easy. If you go clockwise you only have stairs to down, none up. The second set of stairs takes you down by a big water tank. Not sure how much longer stuff will be there at the rate it’s falling apart, but it’s interesting.

Instagram is @aeresius for more hiking trails, help, and guide if needed for some of the harder hikes I’ve done. I love this place, I wish I would have known about it when the inside of the camp was still open, obvs., it’s closed now. The stairs are the biggest challenge about this hike, but it gives such a workout. It’s amazing.

3-4 down trees across the trail, most structures are gone. Still a nice hike!
